April 17, 2018 at 12:48 pm What is the closest ZF Transmission model to a 1999 ZF Marine model IRM280PL transmission? I am interested in what posted tips and suggestions would be applicable. In particular, the comments about measuring the transmission oil level. My transmission OM states to measure the transmission oil level when the engine is running and in neutral and idle speed. Once the dipstick is removed, oil spurts out aggressively from the opening. I think th…

April 18, 2018 at 5:46 am Luke, ZF changed their Gear ID nomenclature about 10 years ago.. Your Model numbed is now called a ZF 280-1. There are also some physical internal & external changes, but if something did happened to yours, the change out is easy.. As to oil–A quality SAE HD 30 W meets the spec. Some 15W-40 also meet the spec. Oil level & checking–The manual is quite confusing on and if you ask an employee at ZF, you will not get a solid an…

April 5, 2018 at 3:51 pm Hello all, My transmission gage on my ZF 220A only reads when the trans is shifted into reverse. The starboard trans works in forward perfect. I don’t see another port to install the sender into. I replaced the sender thinking it may be the issue the the same problem is still occuring. Thanks Joe

November 5, 2017 at 5:14 pm Just bought a workboat with an older JWAC 6BTA, 250. It has a velvet drive 72C gear, can I expect issues down the road and what would a Heavy Duty replacement gear option be. Presently have a drive saver in line, so there is an 1.5″ or so extra length available if needed. David

Re-powered with QSM11 remanā€™s with ZF 325ā€“1 A transmissions. These are electric shift throttles and trans run by a Gleninning system with trolling valves. January 26, 2018 at 3:39 am Well Iā€™m a little embarrassed, at least I donā€™t have a gear problem. I discovered that this boat has two different transmission controllers. The starboard gear has a EB 30 controller, port has the EB 31 controller. The low pressure on the starboard gear led me to believe that I had a transmission problem. The EB 30 controller does not show full operating pressure until put in gear and given some rpm. The EB 31 controller shows full operatin…

December 21, 2017 at 6:42 pm My ZF285A transmission has a shift delay programmable through the Glendinning EEC3 control with a range of 0-2.5 seconds with a default of 1.0seconds. Nothing wrong with the transmissions. Things that make me go hmmm… What is the purpose of this delay? Why would one be inclined to change from the default of 1.0seconds and whatā€™s the reason 1.0 seconds is the default. Phil

For those that have never driven electronic shift/throttles they are silky smooth and itā€™s easy to bump them in a moving boat. Not that it matters now, but for the 5075 to fail at such early hours and then looking at the pics says volumes–The gear was installed with some type of interference on the input applying thrust pressure on the gears input shaft–Not a fault of the gear–A Lousy mechanic put it together..
