    Hi All,
I just left a vessel that has developed a gear oil leak on the main input shaft as it is dripping out the drain on the flywheel housing. It is MG 5114a with 100 hours from rebuild, the gear box has other issues . I don’t trust it and it think it needs to come out fp. All that being said they are still working the vessel 12 hours a day and have a 750nm steam back in 2 weeks. With all the oil on the silicone vulcan coupling how long could it last?

    Luke,

The oil may of may or may not affect the coupling, but there is really is not much you can do other than fix the issue once you get home..

Normally the MG5114A is a solid & very reliable gear, plus one that rebuilds well IF you have the right people doing the work.. Sounds to me that may be the issue.

    Tony
