    One other thing.
I think that fresh ATF helps keep the seals in good condition.
Another reason too change once a year.

Just to through in my 2 cents worth and my experience.

I use Valvoline Dexron in whatever the current number is. (III, IV, whatever)

I change it once a year, this has ranged over the years between 150 and 600 hours between changes.
At 5,500+ hours I don’t think I will change. Also Hurth 630A (which is now ZF 63A).

I would suggest using standard ATF and change once a year.

Any brand name ATF on that list. You don’t need to go synthetic and spend the xtra $$

If it is on the ZF list of approved ATFs, use it if you’d like.

    Ron,

I have a ZF63A gear bolted to the back on my Cummins 6BTA 370.

The ZF63A is on the ZF list requiring ATF.

The 1st season I ran ATF Dexron III.

This season I changed the fluid and filter and now use Mobil Delvac Synthetic ATF. (it is on the ZF list of approved fluids)

Why did I make the switch to synthetic ATF ? “I think I sleep better at night knowing there is synthetic fluid in the gear”.

Other than sleeping better, I don’t think the gear knows the difference between non synthetic ATF and synthetic ATF.

    For what it’s worth,

    Bill D

See 1st link for capacity – same as the 80 series gear.
Don’t forget about the filter – See 2nd link for my cleaning method.
