Choosing the right High-Pressure Hydraulic hoses for HD commercial MARINE applications

When choosing hydraulic hoses for various hydraulic equipment that operate in the 1500-2500 PSI range when in the very nasty Marine Environment can prove to be a challenging job and then, when the USCG gets involved, that can literally double the quality needed for those hoses  to meet those specs…

Due to our 20+ years of working with USCG Inspected Sub-chapter-T vessels, we have now hooked up with a US based company that manufactures their hoses here  (Made in the USA)  to the latest USCG standards and use their hoses exclusively.. Plus , we can offer complete “end-to-end”  hose assemblies made in our shop at competitive prices to the imported hoses from Asia, Italy, etc. places that have been flooding the market , that do not even meet the USCG specs.

When choosing a high-pressure hydraulic hose, 3 main criteria concerns need to be addressed:

  1. The hydraulic working pressures of your system.1500-2500 PSI working pressures are most common. Obviously, you need to have a pressure gauge on your system to “see” what pressures are.. Without that, you are totally blind as to what is That would be “stupid”, right?  What this means is that you need to choose a hose that easily meets & surpasses those requirements. Normally Burst Pressures are 2-4 times that number.
  2. The hydraulic flow in Gallons per minute of the system you have. This requires that you choose a hose size with an inner diameter and fitting size the does not create excessive pressure drop or undo fluid velocity within the system. Plenty of charts on that you can find with a simple “GOOGLE” search.
  3. Choose a hose type that meets specified quality and testing requirements for the industry the hose is made for. In this case, we are talking 100% MARINE. What is easier than to choose what our tax dollars have already paid for… Choose one that meets the very high standards of the USCG.

The hoses & ends fittings that we offer: 100% USCG approved, 100% made in the USA, and certified for use on all USCG certified Vessels (Sub-charter T, Sub-chapter K, all commercially licensed vessels, and others). Using a hose with these certifications removes all the guess work and that concern is now history. For extra custom installation, SS fittings are available for “extra special” applications where you do not want to use “PETRO TAPE” for corrosion protection.

If you have specific questions or need individual one-on-one consultation help with hydraulic system design, we have a full time in-house hydraulic engineer on staff.  He (Tim Von Rader—AKA “Mr. Hydraulics”) has 3+ decades of field experience and speaks the language of “HYDRAULICS” like no other.
