    • Torsion coupling install

March 2, 2023 at 5:12 pm Searched a bunch but still need some advice. I purchased new Centa CF-r torsional coupling for a 280 1a gear from here. Went to install but the instructions that came with the coupling were pretty confusing.   Seems like the directions are starting as if the coupling is disassembled?  pics included  Mine came in one piece but there was some washers and a strap in a bag?  Washers i get but not sure about the strap?  Must be for assembly? Also not…

March 7, 2023 at 5:53 am Your particular CFR coupling would have come fully assembled and ready to install–Ignore the “instructions and strap”.. Washers are used on the attachment bolts.  Lube all with at lease a full tablespoon on common lithium grease inside the spline cavity and on the male spline too (which needs a “O” ring  on it to keep the grese in the spline.. Nothing to measure–it all takes care of itself

January 9, 2023 at 12:11 am I have a Twin Disc that I believe to be a MG-506(-1?), original equipment on a Cat 3208T circa 1982-83. OEM trolling valve was added by previous owner It worked just fine. and then there was a (possibly related) starting fluid high rev event.  Now the transmission takes about 15 seconds to build pressure and shift the first time you engage it in either direction. If it’s been in gear and you go neutral and back into either gear, it will co…

January 20, 2023 at 12:42 pm Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve tested shifting on the unit by moving the selector valve arm fully to the detents, and still the same result. I need to do the same with the trolling valve arm, even though the helm control is fully disengaged. I had a phone conversation with Twin Disc corporate, and was told that based on the symptoms and the model/vintage, it was most likely the clutch piston seals starting to go, and I should contact one …

January 16, 2023 at 8:02 am I have a single engine Cummins 6BT 5.9M 220 hp Trawler (new to me boat) that has a cooling line running from the gear cooler raw water drain hole to the PSS shaft seal. I’m not happy with the connection since it is below the water line and only has room for one small clamp on the clear vinyl hose. As far as I know the boat has operated like that for awhile. questions: Is having a cooling line a good idea? PSS says that the shaft seal only needs …

January 13, 2023 at 3:35 pm I’m in the middle of installing new long blocks, and when separating the gears from the engines I found my boat currently has Centra CF-FS-30 couplings (SAE 11.5”). December 12, 2022 at 9:24 am ZF says to use part # 3213-308-019. SBMAR has Cummins part LF701 listed, but only for transmissions with the MB30 valve, which I don’t believe I have because I’m using electronic throttles. Previous owner had been using Cummins HF6531. Attached are pics, which filter do I use??? Thanks everyone!

Makes no real difference in your application–Or spend  5X the $$ and buy the ZF filter ( just rebranded w/ a ZF $$)  . BTW, your valve is really a EB31

November 23, 2022 at 4:06 pm I’m planning to replace the torsional coupling on one of my engines. The drive train has a lot of gear chatter at idle and I doubt these have ever been replaced before so this is going to be my winter project while the boat is on the hard.  Since the coupling is neither engine nor transmission, it seems there is limited technical information on replacement, although I see previous mention that it is “mechanics 101”.  For the novice like me, I wa…

This particular engine had a slight mis-alignment issue for a number of years due to a cracked engine mount bolt (bolt going through the stringer) that was difficult to find.  It was there when I bought …

November 10, 2022 at 8:23 pm Very observant! The original survey I have from 2016 was in knots. 30 knots at WOT. I have a hard time believing that it could possibly hit 30 knots. The new speed is in MPH. Took it out again today and tried to check the propeller shaft RPMs at WOT. Was unsuccessful. the tachometer wasn’t working properly. We will try again in a couple days.
