ZF 220. Developing a chatter noise in neutral and idle forward. It does not do it in reverse. No loss of performance, and it does not appear to be slipping.

I have not noticed any other sounds at shutdown or otherwise.
Both my engines seem to idle low (sub 550ish per tach, with the port engine being lower thab stbd.
I usually bump them to 650 to 700 for my idle speed through the canal.
At 660 to 700, the chatter is not existent.
I will get in there and get pics the best i can.
No dust or anything that i noticed.

MOST LIKELY, the Torsional coupling that connects the engine to the gear ( inside the bell housing where you cannot see it) has, or is, loosing it ability to absorb torsional issues.. Think of it as a shock absorber on your car , but when it finally gets real bad, it may or will fail and leave to stranded………….Noticed anything else (funny noise) when you shut down or any unusual dust/particles in the engine room near the gear?

Maybe post some good pics of all?
