October 30, 2022 at 8:01 am Good day, Considering removing the fuel cooler on my QSB 5.9 480. Has anyone on this forum removed the fuel cooler off of their QSB 5.9? Any performance issues or any issues going forward after removal ? Thank you, Bill DĀ
3 RepliesNovember 5, 2022 at 6:23 pm I would think it would be as simple as taking the 2 lines off the cooler and connecting them together.Ā

6 CTA 8.3 M3 start battery
This topic has 3 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 1 year ago
November 3, 2022 at 11:52 am I have a 1998 6 CTA 430HP with a recently rebuilt Bosch starter. It starts fine now. Boat has TWO AGM 8D start batteries, new, rated at 1450 cold cranking amps each. I am trying to find what the spec is and what the best practice is for start battery capacity. Elsewhere on this forum someone mentioned 1225 CCA was adequate, but I did not see any reference or documentation. I have never had an engine this large and never needed more than one star…

March 7, 2017 at 7:37 am I have twin 4BT in my Bertram 28.Ā I am very happy with the set up for my recreational activities.Ā Good on fuel and pretty dirt simple.Ā Last september I unfortunately had catastrophic failure when the rear (#4) exhaust valve disintegrated and the rest is history. Now, I have new block and new cylinder head new pistons etc…. After all this work (doin myself) I want to be sure that I make the colling system as good as I can and would like …

October 27, 2022 at 2:35 pm Hello all, I am new here. As a boat buyer, I”m about to conduct an overall survey of these 6BTA 330’s. I plan to start with a blow-by (provided it’s safe to do so).Ā As you can see in the pictures, neglect is probably an understatement and the spray paint on the hoses prove it. There is something hiding in there. I would like to ask you if you could notice the rear motor mounts being replaced by utilizing the gearbox as a mount…

Am I overpropped?

October 31, 2022 at 11:35 am I’m sure this topic has come up many times before but rather than read a million posts I’d rather ask about my specific situation. I’m the proud new owner of a 2005 Sea Ray Sundancer 420 with a pair of 400 hour 6cta 8.3’s with 450hp. I was told that around 280 hours the Starboard engine ate a valve and was repaired by a local Cummins repair facility and Cummins covered some of the repair despite being out of warranty. As …
4 RepliesNovember 1, 2022 at 3:17 pm Get your tachs checked for accuracy. Do it at the dock, engine warm at a steady state 2500 RPM.. Write it down.. Then check WOT no-load RPM by just “looking at the tach”Ā for a second or three.. If they are accurate and you are making full mechanical throttle,Ā you should see right at 2900-2950RPM on the needles. Write it down.Ā There are very early 450 diamonds ( 430 BHP /2600 minimum rated RPM)Ā

October 31, 2022 at 2:43 pm My alternator is getting very hot at idle due and the alternator is trying to pump out 115amps while idling to supply power to the heater intake grid. I have to travel about 10 minutes at 4 knots to get out of the speed restriction zone by then the alternator is very hot. The heater grid seems to have 2 circuits is it possible to disconnect only 1 heater or better to disconnect both? If it is ok to disconnect 1 only do you suggest to remove the …
1 ReplyNovember 1, 2022 at 3:03 pm Put the heater control circuit on a simple switch (wellĀ under 10 amps)Ā at the dash. This has been posted in various places on this web site when discussing the grid heater circuit and your specific concerns.

October 31, 2022 at 8:10 am Good Morning There has to be a way to clean these! $300 to replace seems insane to me especially if youāre Ā racking up yearly hours. Please let me know if anyone had attempted and the results. I can photo document and post if we can come together and get it done Ā Thanks Mike
1 ReplyOctober 31, 2022 at 1:57 pm The Airsep is a big PITA, you can buy the Envirovent for a little more than a new Walker canister, and never mess with it again. Ā Overfilling the sump can result in blowby symptoms, make sure you have not overfilled it. Ā

October 29, 2022 at 2:13 pm 1990 6BTA 300 M2 with a Prestolite alternator (appears to be one main wire to the Battery, and one other for the tach). Port Tach went to zero while underway disabled the glending synch. Both stations read zero.Ā I’ve tried tracing wires but not sure I’m checking the right wires. One wire from Alternator somehow lead to 2 at the VDO tach.Ā Any suggestions how to diagnose? The alternator is charging.Ā

October 10, 2022 at 8:38 pm I have a 2022 Sunreef Power Catamaran that has an issue with a Cummins QSM-11 engine. After 4-5 hours running at 40% engine load the rpms drop 200-300 RPMās every 30-40 seconds, increasing to a drop of 500 RPMās. Eventually the engine shuts down. April 13, 2022 at 7:03 pm I have a 2003 Sea Ray 410 Express with twin Cummins 6C8.3 diesels. Ā My mechanic is suggesting he disconnect the grid heaters. Ā Not necessary in Florida and hard on the batteries and alternators. Ā Is this ok to do? Ā Any risk to engine and performance? Ā Are the grid heaters separate from the glow plugs? January 30, 2017 at 8:54 pm Hi SB crew I have a Riviera 4000 offshore express on Gold Coast, Queensland which featuresĀ 2 x 1997 6CTA8.3 aka C450 Diamond Series with around 1000 hours on the tachourmeters. The other morning I found a bolt in the engine room and it is from the turbo where the exhaust bolts to the turbo. Please refer attached photos. The best thing we did was to plumb fresh water input after the sea cocks.…

October 26, 2022 at 6:00 am I am looking for comments on the exhaust architecture on a Sabre 42 with QSB engines and Zeus Pods. October 25, 2022 at 10:21 am Hello all. I just subscribed to the forum and looking for recommendations. I just purchased a 98 carver 400 cmy with 2 6bta 5.9 370hp (1,400 hours). No leaks is a good thing on the engines, normally I am not worried about oil analysis but if it picked up traces of salt water intrusion then that is good to kno…

October 25, 2022 at 10:51 am My 2016 QSM 11 now has 3945 hours on it. Ā At what point do I consider rebuilding the raw water pump and for that matter, the coolant pump.
