      November 3, 2022 at 11:52 am I have a 1998 6 CTA 430HP with a recently rebuilt Bosch starter. It starts fine now. Boat has TWO AGM 8D start batteries, new, rated at 1450 cold cranking amps each. I am trying to find what the spec is and what the best practice is for start battery capacity. Elsewhere on this forum someone mentioned 1225 CCA was adequate, but I did not see any reference or documentation. I have never had an engine this large and never needed more than one star…

      November 1, 2022 at 3:17 pm Get your tachs checked for accuracy. Do it at the dock, engine warm at a steady state 2500 RPM.. Write it down.. Then check WOT no-load RPM by just “looking at the tach”Ā  for a second or three.. If they are accurate and you are making full mechanical throttle,Ā  you should see right at 2900-2950RPM on the needles. Write it down.Ā  There are very early 450 diamonds ( 430 BHP /2600 minimum rated RPM)Ā

      October 31, 2022 at 2:43 pm My alternator is getting very hot at idle due and the alternator is trying to pump out 115amps while idling to supply power to the heater intake grid. I have to travel about 10 minutes at 4 knots to get out of the speed restriction zone by then the alternator is very hot.       October 31, 2022 at 1:57 pm The Airsep is a big PITA, you can buy the Envirovent for a little more than a new Walker canister, and never mess with it again. Ā Overfilling the sump can result in blowby symptoms, make sure you have not overfilled it. Ā

      October 29, 2022 at 2:13 pm 1990 6BTA 300 M2 with a Prestolite alternator (appears to be one main wire to the Battery, and one other for the tach). Port Tach went to zero while underway disabled the glending synch. Both stations read zero.Ā  I’ve tried tracing wires but not sure I’m checking the right wires. One wire from Alternator somehow lead to 2 at the VDO tach.Ā  Any suggestions how to diagnose? The alternator is charging.Ā

      October 10, 2022 at 8:38 pm I have a 2022 Sunreef Power Catamaran that has an issue with a Cummins QSM-11 engine. After 4-5 hours running at 40% engine load the rpms drop 200-300 RPMā€™s every 30-40 seconds, increasing to a drop of 500 RPMā€™s. Eventually the engine shuts down. Have Fuel polisher and Racor Water/Filter system. Only on one engine, dual tanks with 1300 gallon capacity. Only issue on on engine. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated and truly am happy for this comm…

      October 30, 2022 at 5:05 am Sounds like classic fuel starvation– Install a vacuum gauge close to the on-engine filter ( 0-15″ hg) –Something ( crud)Ā  is being picked up inside the tank and is probably not evenĀ  making it to your off engine filters.. A vac gauge would confirm yea or nay

      April 13, 2022 at 7:03 pm I have a 2003 Sea Ray 410 Express with twin Cummins 6C8.3 diesels. Ā My mechanic is suggesting he disconnect the grid heaters. Ā Not necessary in Florida and hard on the batteries and alternators. Ā Is this ok to do? Ā Any risk to engine and performance? Ā Are the grid heaters separate from the glow plugs? The replacement of the aftercooler sounds like the last owner was at the mercy of the local boat mechanic….only 1400 hours…Ā  prob just needed a good servicing but who knows. IĀ  don’t put on nearly the hours in 5 years you do but time also matters.
