    • QSM 11 raw water pump rebuild – how many hours?

      October 25, 2022 at 10:51 am My 2016 QSM 11 now has 3945 hours on it. Ā At what point do I consider rebuilding the raw water pump and for that matter, the coolant pump. Ā No issues or signs of issues, my yard swaps in a new impeller each winter. <br />also, I canā€™t find a QSM rebuild kit in the store, does one exist?

IĀ  don’t put on nearly the hours in 5 years you do but time also matters.       October 17, 2022 at 11:46 am Started an 85 mile Gulf Panhandle crossing in 1 to 2 foot seas. Following happened: Starboard engine went from 1050 rpms to 0 unexpectedly. I did some checks, could find nothing wrong, so I restarted engine. Ran perfectly.       October 18, 2022 at 6:54 pm HdV, I would not worry about load%.Ā  Focus on your fuel burn rate in the cruise range.Ā  2000 – 2400rpm.Ā  What are the gallons/liters per hour at 2000, 2100, 2200, 2300 and 2400.Ā  Compare those to the cummins performance chart for your engine.Ā  Fuel burn is the purest measure of engine loading.Ā  As I understand it, load%(as reported by smartcrap) is actually a few things thrown into a calculation so ignore load and focus on fuel burn.Ā  Plot…

Service the aftercooler, new SMX raw water pump removed the fuel cooler, hour meter shows 1350hrs Maine age looks fair not bad. Finally got it out on the water two trips 9 and 7 hours each. Check it at the dock, in neutral at a steady 2800-3000 and write it down.Ā  If all all is right, the engine should make close to 3350-3400 at WOT NO-LOAD.       October 9, 2022 at 7:04 am I have a QSC 600 with the standard walker airsep filter. Ā Recently I removed the filter element and silencer lid for inspection and maintenance. The silencer was a bit hard to get off. Ā Normally it pops right off.Ā  When reassembling, the silencer lid will not fully insert and seat into the housing.       October 14, 2022 at 4:49 pm I got it sorted. Ā The o-ring was I the wrong position. When the lid was removed, the smaller o-ring was on the smaller shaft of the lid. Ā It LOOKS like it should fit at the base of the lid. Ā It actually belongs on outer lip of the lid receiver. Reinstalled it and all fit properly. Ā Ā

Wow that sucks.Ā  To be honest all of the cylinders look crappy except maybe #3 but that dont matter at this point.       October 11, 2022 at 7:33 am Running a Lucas CAV pump and noticed fuel dripping from the Timing Lock Bolt on the bottom of the pump. This bolt is directly below the fuel return line. Upon removing the bolt there is an area on the bolt that would appear to be a spot for an oring but no oring was present. Installed an oring and the leak went away. Question is: is there supposed to be fuel in this area of the pump or is this bolt a weep hole to show a failed seal in the pump? …

      October 9, 2022 at 4:30 pm I took the pump into a local hardware store and picked up some new 8mm x 1.25 pitch hex bolts and they were able to go in by hand in the store. They are definitely not the same as what came out of the old pump. Tony, you’re right – something is missing.
