October 7, 2022 at 4:58 am Thanks to the SBMAR forum, I was able to save a bunch of time and money.   My QSC 8.3 started throwing codes  (2256 Prime Pump High Error and 559 Low Fuel Pressure).  We had to limp in at 1100 rpm’s.  While heading in, some searching was done online to find out what the codes were for.  There was a thread here that helped us to identify that we most likely had a bad fuel primer pump.  It must be a common thing to go bad because the local t…

September 27, 2022 at 4:46 am Hello –  I have a pair of 2000 6CTA on a Carver 450 with about 1400 hours (400 have been over the past 3 years since we have owned the boat). Just completed a trip from Rochester NY to Myrtle Beach. We have done a lot of work on the engines following the guidance of Tony and the community (SMX water pumps, 2 new after coolers, replaced all hoses, Double Double Fuel filtration, SMX Boost and EGT, redundant raw water alarms, new trans cooler…

October 5, 2022 at 1:22 pm This engine has nasty leak of oil from the turbo, and I suspect that the oil drain from the turbo is to blame. The drain line is entering the oil pan quite long forward on the engine. The engines fundament is sloping up a few degrees forward compared to the waterline when the boat is laying still. When the boat is doing the marching speed this inclinination is even bigger. I suspect that the inclination is resulting in too little fall from the t…

Need help figuring where they came from and what to do. Also, can I run the engine at lower rpm (1,000) to warm it up for an oil change while I sort this out? Thanks much,  Bruce

May 25, 2022 at 4:25 pm Well upon finding an exhaust leak a few trips ago, I finally took Tony’s advice and dove in.  After removing the coolant and raw water from the system, I removed the cross pipes from both the raw and coolant sides, and the transmission cooler from the back of the heat exchanger.  Removing the heat exchanger bolts leaving one in the top and side mounts as it is a little bulky and heavy.  Once those were free I removed the cooler, Note to ha…

October 26, 2019 at 8:09 am This might seem like a silly question but… I reciently had the oil changed and when I checked to dip stick for oil level it showed above the full line. My question is do you check the level with the dip stick fully seated or do you check without fully seating the dip stick to the lock position? Thanks, Jon Arnold

October 2, 2022 at 9:31 am Checking the engine oil level should be done 3 or 4 times yearly with a dipstick. This is a boat engine maintenance process that ensures the optimal performance of an engine. It is to make sure the boat can continue to run smoothly.

September 30, 2022 at 4:28 am The small  bleeder lines to the top of the tank need to be max ID of 3/16″ to the various spots on the engine. 1/8″ ID will work.   Bigger than that and the engine will /may overheat–WHY?  Because all bleed water by-passes the HX.. The make-up line on the bottom on the tank = 5/8″ minimum ID,   3/4″ ID preferred.
