My alternator is getting very hot at idle due and the alternator is trying to pump out 115amps while idling to supply power to the heater intake grid. I have to travel about 10 minutes at 4 knots to get out of the speed restriction zone by then the alternator is very hot. The heater grid seems to have 2 circuits is it possible to disconnect only 1 heater or better to disconnect both? If it is ok to disconnect 1 only do you suggest to remove the positive from the contactor coil?

Put the heater control circuit on a simple switch (wellĀ  under 10 amps)Ā  at the dash. This has been posted in various places on this web site when discussing the grid heater circuit and your specific concerns.
