October 17, 2021 at 11:24 am I am under contract to purchase a 2006 Meridian 411 with CTA 8.3 diamonds. Engines have 2400 Hours. Up until one year ago boat was owned by a charter operator who took passengers around San Diego Bay at 8 to 10 knots for 13 years. He said to me he Performed all scheduled maintenance and never ā€œstressedā€ The engines. He said he probably only Ran at planning speeds about three times he could remember. During the last year the boat was owned by ano…

The interesting thing about this one is some Aerospace Lab Guys tested the chemistry of the active ingredient which is apparently commonly used in Spacecraft bearings. The results are surprising. October 29, 2021 at 9:37 am Thanks. Why do you point out 7-8kts? Curious, because at the point I’m only burning about 2+ gph. Is it the EGT, percent RPM, or something else. I do typically cruise at 8-9 kts. I do know the hull isn’t capable of higher speeds.

Not the same Vessel View 4 I have on my 2018 QSB 5.9 355. On sea trial with 5 people, and full fuel we weā€™re able to hit 2570, but engine was only showing 92 percent load. October 29, 2021 at 9:33 am Kane, If you look at the Performance report that Tony attached you see that the 490 is rated at 2500 RPM with the gov kicking in somewhere in the 2565 to 2585 range to limit RPM. You can also look at the data plate that is on the engine and it will tell you the rated RPM. You reported 2570 which is spot on. Since you are seeing a load% that is below 100% at 2570 that bodes well for the life of the engine as it pertains to prop loading. Just …

October 29, 2021 at 3:32 am Replacing both my 6BTA 330ā€™s with 6BT 210ā€™s (long story), but the new Cummins supplied 6BTā€™s come with an 8 pin engine wiring loom plug and my 20 year old 6BTAā€™s have a 16 pin round plug (with 13 wires) running into the boats main wiring loom. Is there an adapter of some kind that takes it from an 16 pin round to an 8 pin flat plug to suit the new engines ?

October 26, 2021 at 2:04 pm Port gauge pegs past 150 psi as soon as I turn on the on switch. I don’t even have to press the start button to start the engine. Removed the sending unit and hooked up a manual gauge and it reads about 40 PSI at idle. Starboard gauge works fine. Swapped wires up top and ….. port gauge now works fine (reading the starboard sending unit) and starboard gauge pegs (reading the port sending unit). Assumed this meant both gauges were fine…

    • 6BTA Raw Water Pump Inlet Elbow Issue

This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byAlex 2 years ago

October 22, 2021 at 10:04 am Hi, Im trying to find solutions to not re-route the raw water hose under the engine pan-against the stringer into the inlet elbow of the raw water pump. My 6BTAs have the standard Sherwood 1730 pump and the stringer is so close to the inlet that the hose is basically unreachable unless the engine is lifted. Since I am getting ready to take the engines out for maintenance, might as well do something about the hose connection. Thought about adding…

October 25, 2021 at 10:55 am I agree with changing the pump when the engine is out if it needs to be. In regards to the elbow swap, I thought of curving it up and over the stringer, not only away from the stringer. If I rotate it by loosening the plate I could probably separate it from the stringer but it would still be running the hose under the engine and very hard to reach the hose clamps etc.

October 25, 2021 at 6:37 am I have a 5.9 QSB, I run about 5 gallons thru. I suspect youā€™ll need at least that. Basically youā€™ll want a dark pink coming out of the exhaust and your dripless as well – if you have dripless. Best advice, run extra thru – $6 or $7 a gallon is cheap insurance against freezing.
