    Hello forum members,

As Tony always says….paraphrasing “no need to throw out good oil”

I have a new ReCon QSB 5.9 480 in my lobster boat. Great engine !

Jan 2020 Engine was filled with oil/anti freeze at the dealer for a “quick fire” before I moved the engine to the shop for installation. Engine was not run between Jan 2020 and Sept 2021 as I completed the repower/rebuild.

Boat was launched Sept 2021 and I;ve been sea trialing since. Boat is being hauled for the season next week.

I have seventeen hrs (17) on the engine and have burned 70 gallons through it.

Oil will be 25-26 months old next spring when launched.

    Question is ?

Change oil before winter layup now? Or wait another season depending oh hours ?

    I think I know the answer/suggestion ?

    Opinions ?

Nothing wrong with a premature oil change on a near engine or gear.

Being a northeast boater, I’ll admit I often dump good oil every fall as I do change it before winter layup. I try to hang up the tool belt as much as possible through the season so rather get this done on a cool fall day rather than dealing with it in the dog days of summer when I’d rather be sitting on the hook with a cocktail in hand…
