      May 8, 2017 at 9:21 am In an effort to not ignore the basics, I’m posting these tips on replacing zincs. The aftercooler and heat exchanger zinc cap threads are 1/2″npt and the gear cooler zincs caps are 3/8″npt.Ā  Having taps of each size in your “zinc kit” is a good idea so you can chase those threads clean.Ā  Thread the new pencils onto your caps and snug them up you do not want them coming lose and banging up the tube ends of your coole…

I Rectorseal #5Ā  the zinc threads themselves.Ā  Ā  Then I use pliers or a vise and a wrench to tighten the zinc into the cap.Ā  Ā Snug firmly onlyĀ  asĀ  the smaller ones can be weak and break if overtightened. I could wire these in parallel to double the amps capacity at cranking and could eliminate the “PAR” switch and solenoids.       April 1, 2022 at 7:52 am Trying to remove bottom mounting bolt without Ā snapping it off. Access is tough and seems to be frozen. Do you think I could get the core out and back in while still mounted? I have tried heat, penetrating oil etc. Anyone ever attempted this? I have been working on the large bolt bottom. There is also a set of smaller bolts on the same bracket which seem to be also stuck

We also took off the belt to see if the tensioner was causing the sound and no change. I am only getting the noise when the started is engaged.       April 17, 2022 at 6:35 pm If the noise occurs only when the starter motor is engaged then maybe it is the starter motor. Likely a bearing on the shaft is failing.Ā  Ā which could allow the armature to shift and contact the inside of the stator. Have you actually gone down and looked and listened as a helper cranked the starter? Just a couple seconds. Regardless, pull it and try the test on the bench or just get it rebuilt if indeed the starter turns out to be the culprit.Ā

This could be the culprit and will attempt to inspect for corrosion etc at some stage. Run home Iā€™m was doing 2120 rpmā€™s and looking down on my gauge scan and saw oil pressure 70 psi on port motor and 37 psi on boost.
