First thing is to figure which belt is the troublemaker. I use a bit of brake cleaner. [ very little ] Spray it on either belt when squeaking. That will eliminate the good belt. It evaporates quickly . If itā€™s a serp belt , the use the extender tube and spray just on the inside. If it doesnā€™t go away itā€™s an outside roller.Ā

Ā A good start would be with a pressure gauge at the on engine fuel filter

I would think it would be as simple as taking the 2 lines off the cooler and connecting them together.Ā

Marks, you can certainly do it. I would leave the fill cap off, just in case your vent is not working properly. The Cummins pump will pull a lot of water. You wouldnā€™t want to collapse a tank.

The very first thing I would do is send in a diver. Check the hull , prop and rudder. That must be eliminated as a culprit . Ā

I suspect you can chase this all day and somewhere you will not be within spec. Boat hulls act very different then a computer controlled load test. There will be humps. Somewhere a sacrifice will have to be made. I doubt any harm is caused by burning a higher rate at low loads. Ā Re-pitch for 2000 cruise will put you at 2200 for the same speed . Then you will be burning the same fuel at that RPM. You may then find somewhere else you do not comply with Cummins. You could be chasing your tail.

Maybe your Battery Man reversed polarity to one circuit then corrected it , leaving off the ground intentionally to hide his error.Ā

If you took the reading off instruments, you need to confirm it with a mechanical gauge. Then come back with findings.Ā

Donā€™t make this your Final decision, phone a friend. Why would you invest in a ā€˜ near exact ā€˜ replacement when the original was not right. This makes no sense to me. Get something built properly and forget about it. Ā Maybe $5k . If you ruin the engine itā€™s $40k and you still will need a new exhaust.Ā
