June 12, 2017 at 4:57 pm Anyone having issues with N2K compatibility? I’m having trouble with a Garmin system that has a NMEA 2000 rudder reference that drops out when the Cummins engines start. Engines are 2 years old, same for Garmin mfd’s. There are more details but I’m looking to see if anyone has experienced and solved this. So far neither Garmin nor Cummins (via the Tiara dealer) have been able to provide a solution. I am an electronics tech…

June 13, 2017 at 8:11 am For troubleshooting, bring to the boat a small independent 12V battery and power the N2K backbone with it. That will “prove” your network construction in and amongst itself. Is the RRU on a backbone extension?

June 4, 2017 at 11:01 am I have a pair of Aetna Tachs on my 6 BTA with hour meters. from Aetna Engineering. The hour meters are badly out of sync – Over 100 hrs. I have never run one motor independently of the other. One runs markedly faster than the other. Certainly an issue with the tachs themselves. I have swapped them out from port engine to starboard and the fast one runs fast no matter. This certainly is a minor issue, lets call it a source of irritatio…

June 2, 2017 at 2:13 pm I have twin Cummins QSC 8.3 engines. The Smart Craft (dieselView) has come up with an error that says I need to reconfigure the system. I have gone through the setup and, half way through this process, I get the following message: “The adaption process has failed. You are required to shut the system down and correct the problem. Check that the proper connectors are plugged into the proper levers. Check the proper ERC type.” I have ch…

June 3, 2017 at 9:57 pm Update from last post. I removed the SIM modules from each engine and left them off for about 30 minutes, just to make sure that the capacitors had discharged. When I re installed the SIMs, the DieselView was up and running, only requiring configuration. The DieselView is now running as it should. The only issue that I now have is a message on the Starboard Tacho “Lost Engine Comms”. However, this problem has been intermittent since …

    • Engine temp alarm

May 10, 2017 at 4:01 am Cummins 6cta, 1997 Ran engine on the hard for 15 minutes prior to launch, no issues. Ran day before launch, high temp gage pegged over to far right, alarm light and siren go on, after running for two minutes. Shut it down, stated up again, all ok. Launch next day, fine for ten minutes, then gage pegged over, etc etc. Gage does not creep slowly to right, as if temp was rising slowly, but just buries itself fast. Raw water is circulating fine, eng…

June 2, 2017 at 4:29 pm Rich, If you want a “real” temp alarm you should consider a 205F temp switch and an Aqualarm or Borel alarm panel to wire it to. Very easy to do and you won’t have to rely on the Cummins factory panel alarm algorithm to save an engine. Here’s a post I did a while back with a response from Rob 6BTA 370 setup the "Seaboard Way" Regards, Bill D

May 13, 2017 at 4:23 am Hi All, Ā I have just put in 2 x QSc 8.3 with v 1 smart craft. I have 12v going out the dc bridge connection and nothing to the dash by the looks.Ā  I have nothing to the key, no start, not gauges or smart craft. I gave up in the dark and will go again in the morning. I have changed the key to a different key switch but I don’t think I have it wrong. All fuses on the harness look good. I assume I have got something disconnected and will tak…

May 20, 2017 at 6:12 am Tony, Half a can on contact cleaner and the throttle is fixed. It looks like the non starting on the stb engine was due to the hp plungers on the fuel pump being stuck in due to being storage for years. I explains why the fuel rail had no fuel I guess. Tomorrow will tell that story when I reassemble and try to start again.. Thanks Luke

April 6, 2017 at 6:47 am I have an Onan MDKBR genset with no gauges, and it looks as if the gauge set using the serial interface is not available.Ā  I’d like to add a set of VDO gauges.Ā  Do the VDO gauges just require 12V and additional senders for oil pressure and coolant temperature? April 8, 2017 at 5:24 pm Check for unused ports that are plugged. You can see in this pic I have on my genset an unused coolant port right next to the coolant switch.Ā  What you have now are “switches” that are either open or closed to trigger the safety shutdown. What you will be adding are sending units which will provide the ohm readings for the gauges.Ā

January 30, 2017 at 9:31 pm   Hi SB crew I have a 1998 VDO Cummins Oceanline Tachourmeter on the starboard side that was working fine but is now going off scale (over 4000rpm) when I reach around 1000rpm and it then never recovers. I tried a swap test and it is the tacho as it does the same on the left engine. Is it stuffed or is there an opportunity to recover? January 19, 2017 at 9:26 pm i have a 22SI alternator that is not working (voltage not increasing above resting battery voltage 12.6-12.8 when running in response to loads). November 17, 2016 at 6:25 pm Well, here we are, on a new forum! To welcome it in, I’ll post this bit of news, I finally have my new displays fitted up along with the NMEA connect option!
