    • Exhaust Type?? For Engine Off Flushing

This topic has 19 replies, has 9 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 2 years ago

September 10, 2021 at 11:25 am I have a GB 2008 EU 47 with QSC 8.3 and Iā€™m trying to figure out what type of exhaust I have so I can hopefully install an engine-off fresh water flush system. It doesnā€™t look like a lift muffler at all (which I know you canā€™t use for engine off flushing). What type is it? See any issue with engine off flushing? Itā€™s all downhill from the raw water inlet to the exhaust, and the 3ā€ diameter pipe off the muffler is above waterline. The main exh…

September 1, 2021 at 4:47 pm I just completed a survey and sea trial on a boat with twin 6CTA8.3-M (480 CE) engines. During the sea trial I had a cummins tech riding along with his laptop hooked up monitoring the engines. He said they ran good with the exception that they didn’t make full RPM. Once I got his full report, I noticed that the fuel flows during cruise were also way too high compared to the cummins power curve. Looking through Tony’s tips I learn…

September 14, 2021 at 2:28 am One of my Cummins 8.3 6cta 450 had a problem with Bosch P7100 pump that has been overhauled. Now the engine has an abnormal oil consumption. Could there be a reason related to the revision of the pump or is it a simple coincidence?

September 8, 2021 at 6:37 pm Hi All, Have googled and searched the forum, but can’t seem to find an answer for the procedure on valve lash adjustment. I have adjusted valve lash on many engines, so knowing where the timing pin is, plan to turn the engine over by hand until it engages. Confirm #1 is TDC (assuming most forward cylinder). I could go one cylinder at a time following the firing order, but on other engines I have had I was able to adjust several cylinders…

September 8, 2021 at 9:10 am Following up on my search for a resolution of my coolant problem I have determined that it appears very hot gasses continuously flow out from the exhaust manifold cap at the front end of the manifold through the “Coolant vent to Expansion Tank” line. This gas pressures coolant out of the expansion tank until it falls below the level of the vent at the radiator cap. The coolant recovery tank handles the hot coolant but once the pres…
