New owner of 40 footer with Cummins 6BT engine. When purchased the coolant recovery bottle was blown out. Replace with OEM part and the bottle blew out again. Only coolant that seems to have been lost was the 1/3 in the tank when engine was cold and engine operated fine after the blowout but made a mess of engine compartment. How is the pressure relived while engine is hot and running?

Drill a very small hole ( 1/16″-3/32″”) in the top of the plastic tank. Will hurt nothing but will say “yea or nay”, that was the issue.

Thanks for response. I will pick up another recovery bottle, check the cap for venting and give it a try. The price of this plastic bottle is really high for what it is and venting isn’t obvious.

Every coolant recovery tank I have ever seen has some sort of vent near the main tubing, typically on the cap. It sounds like the vent is plugged. The vent hole can be quite small since the coolant does not move very fast.
