    Hello All,
I am having an issue with my genset. After it runs for about an hour, I get strong odor in the cabin. To me it almost smells like burning oil or coolant. I recently completed an oil change. I did not spill any oil, but nonetheless cleaned the unit and drip pan with a degreaser and bilge cleaner. At times in the season my wife is also claiming that she notices some small amounts of soot residue on the back wall of the aft cabin (Tiara 40 Express). I removed all the panels from the sound shield and inspected the genset exhaust system and did not observe anything that would indicate exhaust was leaking. I am looking for some guidance on where else to look. I do not believe this is a main engine issue.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

    Vessel Name: overslept
    Engines: Twin 4BT CPL741

If the engine is venting more than it should then I would say yes that it will produce an odor. (crankcase gases)
How long have you had this genset and is this a new problem?

What kind of genset is it and maybe a few pics of it installed and the exhaust system it utilizes

Iā€™m going to respond to my own. Would blowby present as a strong odor?
