    • fuel cooler removal continues to be a problem

January 1, 2023 at 7:42 pm I am working through removing the fuel cooler on my 2001 6bta5.9 330. I didn’t realize the kit contains a 3/8 return nipple – i think i can source 1/2″ locally to match my return hose. The fuel inlet hardware to the lift pump can’t fit since I have a relocated fuel filter to the stbd side of the engine. Can’t rock that banjo fitting aft nor will the hose reach if i swing it up forward out of the way. I will inves…

    • 6BTA short oil diptick?

This topic has 7 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byAlex 1 year ago

December 21, 2022 at 10:07 am Hi, I’m trying to find the correct part number for the short dipstick that threads into the aluminum oil pan on my 6BTAs. I want to change the long dip stick that comes up the sides of the engines to the short version I’ve seen in some other 6BTs. Can anyone provide the part #?   Thank you.

January 2, 2023 at 8:40 am Thanks Tony. No worries. I could also take one of the original dipsticks, measure tip protrusion into the pan, thread engagement and cut to make shorter accordingly, keeping all equal at the actual oil level measurement portion that matters. Also confirming with your write up on oil capacity etc. I bought new long dipsticks months ago. So I can modify one of the original ones no problem to test this, then modify the new dipsticks.

January 1, 2023 at 7:28 am Happy New Year! When manually priming one of my engines, fuel started leaking out of the rubber bellows covering the manual pump piston. I believe the seal is shot but there don’t appear to be rebuild kits for these pumps. The SBMAR store only shows the newer style pumps (M3). Other Cummins part sellers list a variety of lift pumps with different part numbers: 3936318, 3917998, and 3917999, none of which cross-reference the others, so pres…
