Newbie here. I recently purchased a Mikelson 50 powered by 480 CE’s. Just had the engines serviced by Coleman marine in San Diego before bring the boat up to San Pedro. While running the boat from SD to San Pedro and then this week from San Pedro to Catalina and back, I noticed the port running at slightly different numbers than Starboard.

Running at roughly 9.5 knots, Port is at 23% load and burning 4.2 gallons per hour. 1360 RPM.  Coolant temp is 153F and oil pressure is 45 PSI.  Starboard is 19% load and burning 3.7 gallons per hour.  1370 RPM.  Coolant temp is 160F and oil pressure 44 PSI.

Should I be concerned with this variance?  Thanks in advance for the assistance.

    MM,

When I put 2 or more links in a post for some reason it does not go through……  Trying this again.  Ignore the load % and focus on fuel burn and other items.  A lot of what you are asking, and maybe not asking, is covered in great detail in other postings.  So I will refer you to those.

Tony’s Tips has an article in it about Twin engine tolerance.  It will tell you about how two engines will never be the same and some difference is to be expected.

The 480CE is a special engine and you should become acquainted with its particular quirk and how to adapt to it.  I answered a thread very recently about these engines and posted a couple of documents in the response.  Check out the 480CE thread that was posted a few days ago for more detail.

Those Mikelsons are great boats.  With a little time and effort you can dial in your rig for years of fishing and/or cruising enjoyment.
