Walker Airsep Vacuum Regulator-Oil spray
This topic has 5 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 1 year ago
January 24, 2023 at 12:55 pm I have a 2008 Sea Ray with two QSC 8.3 engines with about 1000 hrs. My starboard engine has been spitting oil out of the Walker Airsep vacuum regulators misting port on occasion. Probably 3 times over the last 300 hrs. I’ll clean up the mess (see picture attached) and it will not happen for another 100 hrs. Switched regulators from engine to engine and the issue stayed on the starboard engine. Also replaced all Walker internal and external…
5 RepliesFebruary 13, 2023 at 10:56 am Thanks Tony. I will try that and hopfully in the next 100 hrs it doesn’t happen again!

July 7, 2020 at 5:34 pm 6BT 280 hp ,engine have only 100 hr ,after driving 3 hr engine overheated , at 2000 rpm , there was no more coolant in the reservoir , the coolant was coming out from the <valve bleeder > next to the reservoir, I turn the engine off at 280 degree. I added coolant and drove 20 min and the temperature was at 190 degrees. There was white smoke and it smelled like diesel out from the muffler. The second day there was no more coolant in …

6BTA 330 Losing Oil Pressure
This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 1 year ago
February 7, 2023 at 6:07 pm I recently took a job running a boat that has a pair of 6bta 330 engines. I don’t have a lot of history on the engines, other than they were “rebuilt” about 3000 hours/3 years ago, and have been running fine with no major issues since then.Ā After changing the oil, I have good oil pressure at cruise and idle on both engines. After approximately 40 hours, I start to slowly lose oil pressure on the STBD engine. At approximately 6…
2 RepliesFebruary 8, 2023 at 7:08 am Thanks for the quick response. No I have not tested it with a mechanical gauge yet. I assumed, probably incorrectly, that since the gauge was working after each oil change and lost pressure at the same number of hours, that it wasnāt the gauge. Iāll try to rustle up a gauge around here that I can use to test.Ā

Anyone fitted a Yacht Devices J1939 Engine Gateway
This topic has 4 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated by 1 year ago
December 10, 2022 at 11:18 pm I have twin QSB 5.9 – 440 HP Cummins and want to get the engine data displayed on my RayMarine MFD’s as well as the SmartCraft Vesselview display. Has anyone fitted the Yacht Devices J1939 Engine Gateway – YDEG-04NĀ to a Cimmins engineĀ and ifso, how did it work out ? I am told I can insert the new harness inline with the Port or Stb engine plugs on this control panel. The STB engine plug is marked by the red arrow. Supposedly …
4 RepliesFebruary 7, 2023 at 8:03 pm I tried the Yacht Devices interface Smartcraft to NMEA2000 to Raymarine Axiom.Ā After weeks of back and forth with the factory in Lithuania,Ā we could not get it to work. I’ll probably end up getting the Mercruiser interface but just don’t want to spring for it right now.

Qsc 500 quits after releasing start button.

February 7, 2023 at 5:31 pm Starting a new thread as the saga continues. Original problem was engine wouldn’t start. Lift pump was not coming on so replaced lift pump. Also serviced aftercooler as it has to be removed for access. Replaced starter solenoid also as it was broken off the mount. Ā Initial startup after all maintenance it started after a few tries. What happens is when you release the start switch it does. Sometimes it doesn’t but always stumbles. Pu…

QSM-11 715hp. How hard can I run these engines?
This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 1 year ago
February 6, 2023 at 1:56 pm So Iām in the process of purchasing a Tiara 4700 Sovran that will be surveyed next week. Ā I plan to get fuel burn numbers during the survey to see if itās overpropped. Ā Ā The owner says he runs the boat at 2,2oorpms with a fuel burn of less than 25pgh per engine which seems like a reasonable fuel burn compared to the 715hp prop curve. Ā My question is if the boat is propped right after my survey can I run cruise these engines at 2,200 rpm without…
2 RepliesFebruary 7, 2023 at 1:33 pm Thanks for the info. Ā Iām just a little wary about these engines with the dry exhaust/turbos in general. Ā I donāt really have the patience to start dealing with exhaust leaks and adjusting prop pitch that is significantly over propped. If the boat has any evidence of early exhaust leaks I will pass. Even if the exhaust and turbos look good and the boat is significantly over propped I will likely pass. Ā The good news is the boat has only 700 hou…

January 31, 2023 at 10:15 am I changed my plans on the new expansion tank install.Ā I had some questions, and wanted to make sure I am on the right track.Ā I need to get a few parts on order, and I am hoping to get everything on one ticket.Ā Ā Due to having very limited space under the motor covers on a Bertram 28, I decided to build motor boxes.Ā I want to mount the expansion tank and overflow bottle against the cabin wall as shown in the picture…
3 RepliesFebruary 7, 2023 at 12:43 pm I seen in another post where Tony said 1/8 to 3/16, and if you oversized, you would get air in the lines.Ā I see you just used barbs, and 3/16 hose, as opposed to flair fittings.Ā I would prefer barb over flares, so I don’t have to have hoses made. I did do the t-stats the year before last On the 4bt with the original expansion tank, the tank just drops directly into the heat exchanger.Ā On the remote tank I will run a new 3/4″ line…

February 6, 2023 at 6:32 am That first time valve adjustment: I have removed the belt protective cover and I want to access the gear with the barring tool but I’m not sure of the location to engage the tool?

Is it the bolt visible behing the pulley support?

Does it means that I need to deassemble the pulley support? Thanks.
5 RepliesFebruary 7, 2023 at 10:42 am I put a socket, wrench, & cheater bar on the dampener bolt on the crankshaft to rotate the engine.Ā Takes a little umph, but it works.

February 2, 2023 at 8:35 am In a previous thread I asked what significance a difference in 2 PSI between engines was.Ā Previously they had been identical according to my SMX gauge on the bridge and confirmed by an elsctronic sender set in the salon. I just did a full after cooler servicing on both engines as per the Seaboard video and reinstalled everything.Ā On test run today there is still a difference in the engine readings.Ā But instead of just checking the readings at…
6 RepliesFebruary 6, 2023 at 4:35 pm I puled off the Port AC once again and rechecked everything.Ā Put double clamps on hoses where I could. Ran the boat today with and without the synchronizer and found no difference.Ā I’m beginning to be suspicious of the gauge even though it held pressure with my pressure test setup of the tubing holding pressure and the gauge on the bridge also holding steady.Ā But the pressure gauge setup at the engine read 12 PSI and the SMX gauge read …

best injectors for my 210hp cummins
This topic has 3 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated by 1 year ago
July 22, 2022 at 5:51 pm Hi I just purchased a boat with twin cummins 5.9 6 bta they are the 210hp according to the serial # (thanks by the way).Ā there is no maintenace history available so I am trying to get the motors back to a point that i feel comfortable heading offshore. When changing the fuel filters i noticed a lot of water in one separator which would probably account for some white smoke when i hit around 2200rpm . So not knowing how long this has been going …
3 RepliesFebruary 6, 2023 at 2:20 pm Hello! Sometimes fuel injectors are ruled guilty without a reason, the truth is that they are very reliable (and expensive), As Neto said, first deal with the basics, filters, I would also check fuel lines and tanks pick up tubes. You say “some white smoke at 2200 RPM”Ā Are thoseĀ Ā 2200 RPM under load or at the dock in neutral? Does your engine reaches their normal temperature around 190ĀŗF Besides the fuel system you can also check a…

February 5, 2023 at 7:37 am Doing aftercooler and heat exchanger maint on the boat this off-season. Ā First time I will be draining the coolant side to pull Heat Exchangers off and clean, has bee done by previous owner. Ā Just looking to check for any other PMs I should be doing being I will be draining coolant side. thermostats are originals, and CC pump is original. Ā No issues noted with either, just curious what I should add to the list being I have the opportunity. 2006 …
2 RepliesFebruary 6, 2023 at 8:34 am As suggested to me by a good friend, with the coolant drained, put 1/8 NPT valves in place of the antifreese drain plugs. Ā Add a length of properly rated hose and you will have less of a mess next time you change antifreeze. Ā McMaster-Carr has the appropriate valves. Ā Part # 4794K13 Bronze Compact On/Off Valve 1/8 NPT, Part # 44555K124 Low Pressure Barbed Tube Fitting for 1/4ā ID with 1/8 NPT.

January 31, 2023 at 7:49 am New member to the site and recently purchased a vessel with a pair of 2003 480CE engines. November 27, 2022 at 1:57 pm Help! I am baffled. I have a 2004 Monk 36 with a Cummins 6BTA-5.9-M3 SWAC 330 HP, 2788 hours. Itās been pretty much flawless. In October I left Maine for warmer winter climates. Five weeks later after a slowish trip (cruise 1800-2000 RPM) of 162 hours, I reached Charleston, SC. A couple days ago, when I started the engine and readied to weigh anchor, engine stopped very quickly, no run on. Started right away when I hit the start.Ā Few minutes la…

February 1, 2023 at 10:03 am Hola US friends Anyone know what I need to connect Smartcrap Vesselview 1.5 (2012) to my Raymarine NMEA2000 MFDs please? February 1, 2023 at 3:28 pm We have a new 2022 QSL9 (long story) and replaced the old (2005) harness with the new one complete with control box in ER and a nice connection to NMEA.Ā We understand the Cummins harness supports an Exhaust riser Temperature sensor and would like to pursue that.Ā Which sensor ? Install it and plug it right in? thanks! Todd

5.9 Cummins 6BTA rebuild

January 27, 2023 at 6:11 pm Hi Everyone, Ā To make a long story short, I blew a hose and overheated one of my engines (5.9 6BTA 315 hp CPL 1928 ESN 45306809), which resulted in cracking the head and ruining the block.Ā Ā As a commercial operator I needed to get up and running quickly. So I found a place in Florida selling a pair of āgood running takeouts 1000 hoursā 5.9 6BTA 330 hp CPL 1975 ESN 45933352. I bought both engine so I could put one in the boat and have the othe…
2 RepliesJanuary 27, 2023 at 8:16 pm Hi Tony, thank you for getting so quick! Yes you are correct in that, it was a machine shop that specializes mainly in automotive, and also does a small amount of marine diesel work as well. They do good work, but definitely not Cummins Marine specialists. The “new block” is from one of the seized engines I bought. Serial number: 45933352 Which had to get bored .040″ over. And yes, I should have just bought a 1928 long b…

1 ReplyJanuary 24, 2023 at 6:54 pm Guesswork here but you likely haveĀ poorly made connections somewhere.Ā Ā Loose nuts, screws on terminal strips or buss bars,Ā poor crimps on wires,Ā loose connectionsĀ somewhere.Ā Dirty corroded connection will also do this. Go around and check.Ā Ā Don’t just look at them.Ā Ā Ā Check the battery connections also.Ā Ā Use a DMM to test for proper voltages at the offending devices and work backwards. Turbo slow to spool up
This topic has 10 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 1 year ago
March 18, 2022 at 2:45 am This started happening after a long period of slow running (trolling Lures), now happens more often. From slow running, push throttle up nothing happens. leave it half way and rpms slowly rise, then it springs into life turbo winds up and we are up on the plane 2500 rpm.. Intercooler is clean, AF is clean, hull is clean, prop is clean, boat is not over weight.
10 RepliesJanuary 23, 2023 at 11:23 am Any V hull is going to take some extra umph to get her over the hump, especially a single screw.Ā Sounds normal IMO.

January 21, 2023 at 9:32 am I replaced my after cooler with a new one on my M2 6CTA. After about 3 weeks I developed an oil leak from my turbo seal ,which put oil into the cooler. I cleaned everything as best as I could with out removing the after cooler. The new cooler has the drains on it. I ran the boat 6 to 8 times after and all seems well. The boat is pulled for the winter. Since the after cooler is basically brand new, I was not planning on doing the after cooler ser…
