    Hi Everyone,

To make a long story short, I blew a hose and overheated one of my engines (5.9 6BTA 315 hp CPL 1928 ESN 45306809), which resulted in cracking the head and ruining the block.

As a commercial operator I needed to get up and running quickly. So I found a place in Florida selling a pair of ”good running takeouts 1000 hours” 5.9 6BTA 330 hp CPL 1975 ESN 45933352. I bought both engine so I could put one in the boat and have the other engine as a spare. They shipped the engines up to me (BC, Canada) and when they arrived I found they were both completely seized, obviously from a sunken boat! Not the way I wanted to spend $25k.

Now I’m trying to use the three engines to build one running engine.

I stripped down one of the seized engines (CPL 1975) and after pounding the pistons out I had to get the block bored .040” over. I also got the cylinder head (from engine CPL 1975) rebuilt and plained .010”

    So my question is:

    1. Can I use my original Nippondenzo pump, with original drive gear, on the new block?

    2. Will the original 315 hp injectors from CPL 1928 work in the new head? If not, will the 330 hp injectors work with the Nippondenzo pump?

    3. I have a Cummins head gasket 3283337, which is the .010” over gasket, rather than the .020” over (3283339). Would that work or would it not leave enough room with .010” taken off tye head?

    Thanks so much!

Hi Tony, thank you for getting so quick!

Yes you are correct in that, it was a machine shop that specializes mainly in automotive, and also does a small amount of marine diesel work as well. They do good work, but definitely not Cummins Marine specialists.

The “new block” is from one of the seized engines I bought. Serial number: 45933352 Which had to get bored .040″ over.

And yes, I should have just bought a 1928 long block, but my thought was to buy two “good running engines”, put one in the boat and have the second as a spare. And then rebuild the original engine that overheated when I had free time.

So what I’m trying to do now, is use the block and head from the sunken/seized engine, and put all of the internals and externals on it from my original engine.

I will email details of the place I bought these engines from.

    Thanks!

Based on your post you need to tread lightly until I sort out a few things.

1.. I want to know the name of who “screwed” you from Florida–You can send me the details  direct ([email protected])

2..What exactly  is the   “new block” ?

    3. in so many words,   CPL 1975 (Bosch) and ND EP9  fuel & Pump parts DO NOT  mix and match

    4.  Why did you not buy a genuine Cummins CPL 1928 long  block ? They are easily available

    5. who is guiding you on the CPL 1975 blocks?  What you are posting does not sound kosher but more like some stuff from a “hot-rod” shop.  IMO, if they were any good, you would not be asking these questions.
