I have twin QSB 5.9 – 440 HP Cummins and want to get the engine data displayed on my RayMarine MFD’s as well as the SmartCraft Vesselview display.

Has anyone fitted the Yacht Devices J1939 Engine Gateway – YDEG-04N  to a Cimmins engine  and ifso, how did it work out ?

I am told I can insert the new harness inline with the Port or Stb engine plugs on this control panel. The STB engine plug is marked by the red arrow. Supposedly you unplug this, insert the new harness and plug the original plug to the other end of the harness. A Y cable takes the data then has a RayMarine STNg plug that connects to an available port on the network.

    I have twin QSB 5.9 380 hp.

    • I tried the Yacht Devices interface Smartcraft to NMEA2000 to Raymarine Axiom.  After weeks of back and forth with the factory in Lithuania,  we could not get it to work. I’ll probably end up getting the Mercruiser interface but just don’t want to spring for it right now.

On mine the j1939 barely gave me any info.  I returned them and got the j1708 version and recived much better data.  2007 qsmll dry 660

    Thanks Tim,
I got mine working OK after having to do a software change to swap the order of each engine data. Port engine was showing up as STB etc. Now all working and sending engine data to my Raymarine plotters so I can have a split screen of chart and data at my upper helm since I have no SmartCraft display there (only on lower helm).

we just completed a Bass Strait crossing down to Tasmania of 210 nM in 24 hrs so being able to monitor all engine parameters gave plenty of peace of mind. Main data I was relying on was each engines fuel burn to optimise our speed which was around 8.3 kts at a combined 20 Litres/hr. The wind and sea state helped a lot to get this economy given Bass Strait has a nasty reputation for bad weather. We crossed a day before the Sydney-Hobart fleet crossed on their yact race down south. Although our route was a fair bit west of their rhum line.

We will be cruising in Tasmania for the next 2 months where hopefully the boat doesnt give any problems. Our twin Cummins QSB’s are running fine, especially with their new SMX raw water pumps which I fitted before this trip.

Yes, I use one.  I plugged right into the port under the dash and it displays NMEA2000 on my Garmin MFD’s.
