Zeus Pods: Good, Bad, Ugly??

October 14, 2018 at 10:15 pm I am considering buying a Meridian 441 flybridge āmotor yachtā, which is 47ā LOA and 31,000lbs. These come with various engine configurations but commonly, with QSB 425ās which can be either shaft-drive or Zeus pods. All my personal experience to date is with 6BTA 370ās in a conventional shaft drive arrangement. Easy Access Switched Ignition Source QSB6.7

July 18, 2023 at 9:05 pm I need to connect an external device needing only a micro current draw to a switched source of power….ideally on-engine with easy access, rather than somewhere off-engine (like the ignition switch itself). On my QSB 6.7 480, is the easiest-to-access switched power point the oil pressure switch? thanks in advance

Turbo Coolant Feed Pipe: "slop" normal?
This topic has 4 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated by 11 months ago
August 18, 2017 at 8:39 pm I’ve bought a set of new engine hoses from Brad for my 6BTA 370, including a turbo coolant return hose. On installing this, I found some ‘slop’ or wriggle in the “water transfer tube” (CN # 3897088) this hose slips onto at the engine end. Looking at a QuickServe diagram, I can see that this tube is held in with a clamp and O-ring. The clamp nut is tight-as and there is no sign of a leak. Can someone tell me if …
4 RepliesJune 1, 2023 at 11:21 am Hello , and thanks for this forum, Does Tony’s answer apply to my 6BTA 250HP? I changed Turbo coolant return hoses on both engines.Ā The Stbd was tight but no problems. The port hose was really tight, and even with heat and soap it took a lot of force. It Stull was only needed another 1/2 inch to be perfect when the return pipe moved and exhibits this slop.Ā The retainer bolt is tight. I am thinking of removing it and repla replacing the O…

Alternator Fuse Location: QSB6.7

November 30, 2022 at 3:56 pm New-to-me boat and engines:Ā 2019 QSB6.7 480s.Ā Has the ‘factory standard’ 160A Delco alternators.Ā How are these fused….is there an internal fuse or are they mounted on the engine? Or not fused at all? Right now,Ā each alternator charges separate Start batteries.Ā I want to combine the P & S Start batteries into a single Start ‘bank’, charged by the Port alternator only.Ā I want to dedicate the Stb alt to the H…
1 ReplyNovember 30, 2022 at 6:37 pm Never seen a fuse on the alternator output on a QSB 6.7. But that does not mean you don’t have one as many boats have custom OEM wiring. BUT IMO, I’d never share batteries between house loads or engine to engine under normal operation with a electronic engine.. So many batter ways to have both alternators charge the house bank yet charge each start battery automatically yet keep them from talking to each other and not loose the safet…

Fitting on underside of QSB6.7 Aftercooler
This topic has 2 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 1 year ago
November 15, 2022 at 12:49 am Hi:Ā new-to-me 2019 QSB6.7 480s have the silver-look fitting on the underside of the aftercooler….see attached pic.Ā It looks like a drain fitting with a hose barb….could someone tell me what it really is and how it should be used please? thanks
2 RepliesNovember 15, 2022 at 7:34 pm It is supposed to be an auto drain for the typical fresh water condensation that occurs in the cold side(input side of the aftercooler). In theory, when the engine is OFF or at very low RPM ( like idle or so) the auto drain valve is open and condensation should drip from it and you may even feel air escaping from it actually blowing out the condensation.<br />Once the engine load is increased, 1/2 to 1 psi or so of boost pressure, it is su…

October 8, 2022 at 4:06 am New to me vessel with twin QSB6.7 480’s.Ā Helm equipped with VesselView 4.Ā I can display total fuel burn/hour but for the life of me, I cannot find how to display fuel burn for each individual engine.Ā Could someone please point me right on this? I Thanks in advanceĀ
2 RepliesOctober 21, 2022 at 3:54 pm Thanks Tony.Ā I have the VV4 manual and read that carefully:Ā it was not helpful.Ā I finally got hold of a local Mercruiser dealer who has a subcontractor expert in VV.Ā He was super helpful & really knew his stuff, though by his own admission spent most of his time on outboard and gas engine integration, rather than diesels.Ā He said VV4 did NOT display individual engine fuel burn even though it captured this data…as I had found, only…

April 8, 2020 at 9:19 am 6BTA 370hp M-3, CPL 2008. Manual lift pump is leaking when the thumb plunger is operated but not otherwise (no leak when engine is running and vessel underway). No hard-starting or evidence of air leaks. What’s the right approach to fixing this please?
2 RepliesOctober 11, 2021 at 4:48 am Tony or Paul, I have the same issue. the pump leaks at the plunger. The lift pump plunger came off really easy but I cannot figure out how to disassemble. It looks like it has been pressed together at the factory. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Jim

January 13, 2021 at 5:06 pm The plunger on my Bosch P-7100 mech lift pump leaks when I use it…but it does pump fuel and doesn’t leak when engine is operating. I have removed the plunger assembly (see pics attached) but I cannot figure out how to disassemble to check for an O-ring that I’m guessing needs replacement. Raw Water Hose Type Recommendation

October 28, 2020 at 5:09 am I am wanting to replace the raw water hose that connects the output side of the gear oil cooler to the heat exchanger on my 6bta 370 Diamonds cpl 2008. The existing hose is 1.75″ and was once clear with spiral wire. What hose type is best? Thanks
6 RepliesOctober 31, 2020 at 12:16 pm Clear hose with wire is novel in that application! Wire not needed, itās a pressure hose, not likely to collapse. Trident is a trusted name in marine hoses. Call Seaboard parts.

4BTA lift pump

April 3, 2020 at 4:42 am One of my lift pumps is leaking fuel when priming (not leaking when engine is running) searching quick serve I can’t find any reference to the part. The engine is also idling a little rough and I’m down 50 odd revs at WOT, any chance the lift pump is letting air into the system? Thanks ESN 46514245
5 RepliesApril 14, 2020 at 6:56 pm After a lot of digging I came up with the part number for the Bosch primer pump on the 4BTA-250 engine. Dan I hope this helps you. I came up with the Bosch # 2 447 222 126

May 21, 2019 at 8:50 am I am new to diesel marine engines but I know they are different than the truck engines I am accustomed to. I have a Maxum 4100 SCR with twin Cummins 6bta 5.9 M3 330’s. Cummins 6CTA8.3 Battery Replacement

June 3, 2019 at 4:21 pm Looking to replace the 5 batteries in our 2003 420 Sundanceās. In my research the 6CTA8.3ās mention 1250 CCA. Anyone here have inputs on AGM Group 31ās or other batteries recommendations? Thanks very much.
4 RepliesJune 5, 2019 at 5:39 pm Yes more are less every 3-4 years. House Deep Cycle is normally 3 yrs as they are working off the inverter. Service twice a year clean and use distilled water only. My inverter is a multi-stage charger so it keeps them charged with out over charge. My older onboard charger stays off unless I have gone through a real deep discharge. Then its on only until batteries are at full charge then off. As Rob said better deal unless hard to get to.

Repair Sendure HX raw water outlet
This topic has 13 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 6 years ago
August 4, 2017 at 6:53 pm Taking raw water hoses off my Sendure HX, I’ve found the raw water outlet pipe (aft end, up against exhaust riser) to be corroded through at its edge. I’ll take it to a radiator or machine shop for repair…but I’d like to be able to tell them what metal the outlet pipe is made. Any tips for getting this repair done right? (6BTA 5.9 370)

Valve Cover Bolt Gasket
This topic has 4 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated by 6 years ago
September 26, 2017 at 4:28 pm I have a 6BTA 370 hp. I am going to check the valves and I currently have the o-ring gasket for the valve cover bolt. Our local cummins shop says that it has been upgraded to the Isolator type gasket. The bolt looks like the one shown on SBMARs site for the Isolator gasket (bolt with partial threads and shoulder). Is there any difference between the 2 gaskets? Thanks in advance.
4 RepliesSeptember 29, 2017 at 3:54 pm I haven’t heard of the ‘isolator bolt’ option before. Is this considered a worthwhile upgrade for 6BTA’s? Does it really make a difference to noise?…or have other benefits?
