    • Zeus Pods: Good, Bad, Ugly??

This topic has 10 replies, has 7 voices, and was last updated byMark Rinker 1 month ago

October 14, 2018 at 10:15 pm I am considering buying a Meridian 441 flybridge ā€˜motor yachtā€™, which is 47ā€™ LOA and 31,000lbs. These come with various engine configurations but commonly, with QSB 425ā€™s which can be either shaft-drive or Zeus pods. All my personal experience to date is with 6BTA 370ā€™s in a conventional shaft drive arrangement. I am after some of Seaboardā€™s famous frank and honest advice: should I run away from pod drivesā€¦.or go for them if they have a so…

    • Easy Access Switched Ignition Source QSB6.7

July 18, 2023 at 9:05 pm I need to connect an external device needing only a micro current draw to a switched source of power….ideally on-engine with easy access, rather than somewhere off-engine (like the ignition switch itself). On my QSB 6.7 480, is the easiest-to-access switched power point the oil pressure switch?   thanks in advance

    • Turbo Coolant Feed Pipe: "slop" normal?

This topic has 4 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated bySteve Woodside 10 months ago

August 18, 2017 at 8:39 pm I’ve bought a set of new engine hoses from Brad for my 6BTA 370, including a turbo coolant return hose. On installing this, I found some ‘slop’ or wriggle in the “water transfer tube” (CN # 3897088) this hose slips onto at the engine end. Looking at a QuickServe diagram, I can see that this tube is held in with a clamp and O-ring. The clamp nut is tight-as and there is no sign of a leak. Can someone tell me if …

June 1, 2023 at 11:21 am Hello , and thanks for this forum, Does Tony’s answer apply to my 6BTA 250HP? I changed Turbo coolant return hoses on both engines.Ā  The Stbd was tight but no problems. The port hose was really tight, and even with heat and soap it took a lot of force. It Stull was only needed another 1/2 inch to be perfect when the return pipe moved and exhibits this slop.Ā  The retainer bolt is tight. I am thinking of removing it and repla replacing the O…

    • Alternator Fuse Location: QSB6.7

November 30, 2022 at 3:56 pm New-to-me boat and engines:Ā  2019 QSB6.7 480s.Ā  Has the ‘factory standard’ 160A Delco alternators.Ā  How are these fused….is there an internal fuse or are they mounted on the engine? November 30, 2022 at 6:37 pm Never seen a fuse on the alternator output on a QSB 6.7. But that does not mean you don’t have one as many boats have custom OEM wiring. BUT IMO, I’d never share batteries between house loads or engine to engine under normal operation with a electronic engine.. So many batter ways to have both alternators charge the house bank yet charge each start battery automatically yet keep them from talking to each other and not loose the safet…

November 15, 2022 at 12:49 am Hi:Ā  new-to-me 2019 QSB6.7 480s have the silver-look fitting on the underside of the aftercooler….see attached pic.Ā  It looks like a drain fitting with a hose barb….could someone tell me what it really is and how it should be used please? thanks

November 15, 2022 at 7:34 pm It is supposed to be an auto drain for the typical fresh water condensation that occurs in the cold side(input side of the aftercooler). In theory, when the engine is OFF or at very low RPM ( like idle or so) the auto drain valve is open and condensation should drip from it and you may even feel air escaping from it actually blowing out the condensation.<br />Once the engine load is increased, 1/2 to 1 psi or so of boost pressure, it is su…

April 8, 2020 at 9:19 am 6BTA 370hp M-3, CPL 2008. Manual lift pump is leaking when the thumb plunger is operated but not otherwise (no leak when engine is running and vessel underway). No hard-starting or evidence of air leaks. What’s the right approach to fixing this please?

    • Raw Water Hose Type Recommendation

October 28, 2020 at 5:09 am I am wanting to replace the raw water hose that connects the output side of the gear oil cooler to the heat exchanger on my 6bta 370 Diamonds cpl 2008. The existing hose is 1.75″ and was once clear with spiral wire. What hose type is best? Thanks

October 31, 2020 at 12:16 pm Clear hose with wire is novel in that application! Wire not needed, itā€™s a pressure hose, not likely to collapse. Trident is a trusted name in marine hoses. Call Seaboard parts.

April 10, 2018 at 9:45 pm Twin 6BTA 5.9 370’s, Cpl 1975. I have Parker 436-8 hoses from my fuel tanks through my Racors and on to the lift pump. • Repair Sendure HX raw water outlet

August 4, 2017 at 6:53 pm Taking raw water hoses off my Sendure HX, I’ve found the raw water outlet pipe (aft end, up against exhaust riser) to be corroded through at its edge. I’ll take it to a radiator or machine shop for repair…but I’d like to be able to tell them what metal the outlet pipe is made. Any tips for getting this repair done right? (6BTA 5.9 370)

    • Grounding Strap for Air Heater?

September 25, 2017 at 3:50 pm I remove my aftercooler top caps annually to inspect and clean out the raw water tubes. This year, on re-installing, I used new bolts and lock washers. • Garden Hose Coolant Flush?

This topic has 5 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byRob Schepis 6 years ago

August 20, 2017 at 5:01 pm I change my coolant every 4 years. I know this is over-kill but it works in with my program of dis-mounting HX’s and after-coolers, etc for off-engine servicing and a bunch of other stuff I do at the 4-year mark. I have previously used RESTORE (alternately, RESTORE PLUS) to flush the system before re-filling with new coolant. I’m now persuaded this is a waste of $$ and time….particularly time, as I have to flush repeatedly …

August 24, 2017 at 2:44 am Sounds good and yes the 180’s are the right tstats for your application. Just as in setting up a f/w flush of the raw water side there’s no real right or wrong, just connect up top and drain & collect down low…. try to contain your flush water in something like a clean spackle bucket so you can see the effect of running the flush water through.

    • Rubber Boot for Fuel Solenoid?

February 15, 2017 at 4:55 pm 6BTA 370hp M3, CPL1975. Just noticed the rubber boots under the fuel solenoids on both engines have split. Is it necessary to replace these in a dry protected engine room? If yes, can the boot alone be sourced or am I up for a new solenoid?
