    • QSM11 Exhaust manifold gaskets

This topic has 3 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 2 years ago

March 25, 2022 at 7:41 am We recently installed a new exhaust manifold and hot housing for my turbo. Approximately 1,200 hours later and turbo is cracked at the flange and down the middle. We were sold graphite gaskets for the exhaust ports. One of them blew out so we have a ton of soot. My main question is should we continue using the graphite gaskets or use the thin metal gaskets? Also, should we use a graphite gasket on the turbo flange, if they make one?

March 26, 2022 at 8:57 am QSM11 & graphite exhaust gaskets Like any “compressible gasket” they need a retorque after one or two hot/cold cycles..Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā    As to the entire exhaust design, totally sucks with no long term cure. Basically, nothing has changed as to the on-goingĀ  issues when 1st released in 1999.

March 23, 2022 at 7:22 pm Hello again ! I have a twin cummins 4bta 2001 Bayliner 3488 and owned it 4 years now. My port engine seems to be forcing crank oil out the dipstick and looking for some direction. I had a mechanic look but not sure he was really that knowledgeable on diesels. He removed the oil cap and felt for excessive blowby but said it seemed normal. Short version is I had front crank seals leaking and I replaced both engines. Changed the oil and moved on un…

March 25, 2022 at 5:56 pm thanks Tony Going try replacing current Airsep with yours. My 4bta are the 250HP version. In your store it lists the 4bta kit as under 250 HP. Please advise which one is correct for my engines pic of my air filter attached. Are these envirokits in stock as well as the aftercooler o ring gaskets as I might ship them to Palm Desert CA as I am heading down there for 10 days then I can bring back to Canada.   Cheers

March 21, 2022 at 8:55 am Ā While I had the heat exchanger removed for cleaning, I took some pictures of the exhaust elbow which I think the manufacturer used a wet elbow on the Albin 32+2?? I think it is also bronze as I checked it with a magnet so hopefully not prone to corrosion. This is a 98′ 6BTA Engine with about 1800 hrs and runs good, no issues. It is tight quarters for the exhaust elbow and exit and was wondering if you aware of any known issues on the Albi…

March 24, 2022 at 11:35 am I have a 1999 32+2 (Yanmar 6LY, but similar enough constraints) and had Tony look at the exhaust when I bought the boat. I replaced the exhaust elbowĀ  with a stainless version from Seaboard (they welded on a temp sensor to alarm a loss of raw water flow) and installed a fresh water flush system. The injection height above waterline is more than adequate.Ā  I was advised that while the elbow wouldn’t fully self drain the fact that it is heav…

March 22, 2022 at 3:20 pm Hello, I am looking to buy a boat with 2 QSB6.7 305 HP. this is a year model 2014. Seller seems honest and reliable and has the maintenance record of the boat since it had 7 hrs on. In an oil analysis for boat motors, the copper came up high. Surveyor advise to look for another boat since this one will need motors overhaul. I invested quite some time, effort, and money on this boat and it is in a really good shape except this. March 24, 2022 at 10:46 am Nothing wrong with a wee bit of old oil being flushed back into the crankcase with the new oil.Ā  In almost all oil changes not all old oil is removed so there is always a small amount remaining.   The question is was theĀ  pump used to fill the sample bottlesĀ  Ā and more importantly does the the pump use bronze gears.Ā    Best is to get an independent sampling setup and resample.Ā  Ā  Samples can be contaminated very easily.

March 14, 2022 at 8:44 am Noticed a tiny leak from the coolant pump on the port side. Figure I might as well go ahead and change both of them. They seem to be available here for $245, but they are running between $70 and $100 most everywhere else, including Amazon with delivery tomorrow. If the part on this site said SMX, then I would assume it came with some upgrades to help performance/longevity, but it does not say SMX. What am I missing?
