July 28, 2023 at 3:40 pm Could be lots of things………Type of air intake system, CCV ststem? , overfill of oil pan, lack of proper engine room ventilation, lack of normal turbo maintenance on the air side, etc.. One thing for sure, you need to get all spic & span to find the source of the leak.. Your engine room attention needs improvement as what I see did not happen in a trip ot two.

July 27, 2023 at 6:59 pm Don’t worry about an aftercooler.. Get the engine installed and get it running /propped so it makes at least 2400-2500RPM without the coolant going above 180F ( use a 160F thermostat)..Ā  Thermal wrap the exhaust & turbo Be sure your gear stays under 170F with 140-15 better Keep the engine room well ventilated so temp stay under 120F max.

July 10, 2023 at 8:49 am Hi, I have a Cummins 6CTA (450 Diamond – single engine, ~2000hrs, date of remanufacture was in 2019) in my boat and I am having some alternator issues.Ā  The alternator seems to run intermittently. July 27, 2023 at 5:38 am NPT threads such as anode caps are a tapered fit so it’s about the mating of the male/female connection, not the stretching of a bolt to put it in tension as with machined threads.Ā  And then add in the variables created by different pipe dopes and different metal materials of the male vs. female component.Ā  Gotta do it by feel.Ā  If you are afraid of overtightening use a stubby wrench or ratchet and tighten them down pretty good.Ā Ā

    • 1998 Cummins 5.9 330hp Valve Cover Bolt Torque

This topic has 4 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byDaniel 9 months ago

July 16, 2023 at 9:32 am Original maintenance book calls for 18 ft-lb for the cover bolt using the original obsolete 3923406 noise isolator seal. With that seal, the bolt will bottom on a shoulder as you tighten it and not crush the valve cover gasket. The replacement isolator 3935449 is much thicker, before I tighten these too much and completely crush the new valve cover gaskets, can someone please advise me on how much to tighten the cover bolt? July 25, 2023 at 6:14 pm I’m looking at the purchase of a 38 foot fishing boat with a 300 hp 6CTA 8.3, approx 6500 hours. Compared to my former 34 foot boat with a 315hp 6BTA 5.9, throttle response seems quite slow, almost like the hull is severely fouled. July 26, 2023 at 6:27 am ‘Slow’ means different things to different people. A 38 foot boat with a single 300hp engine is going to be ‘slow’ on a good day IMO, so could be totally normal.Ā  With that said, if it’s billowing black smoke and takes 60 seconds to get on plane, that’s a different type of slow. How long does it take to get on plane?Ā  What did it hit for WOT rpm?

July 18, 2023 at 3:57 pm Good Evening, Iā€™m having an issue with my 2005 Cummins 480CE producing a sheen on the water that I believe is excess fuel on my port motor.
