June 14, 2023 at 12:35 am I just overhauled the water pumps on two QSM11 (635) in a Luhrs 41. Glendenning electronic throttles and shift. After re-fitting the overhauled pumps, the starboard engine starts and runs fine, everything normal. But the port engine rotates when the starter is engaged, but won’t fire.Ā  When the port engine circuit is energised, the LCD engine display screen boots up, but the engine warning light module is dead and doesn’t run a self …

November 6, 2023 at 4:27 pm The Fort Myers Cummins shop did an excellent job of diagnosing the problem. Turns out to be a bad ECM module mounted to the port engine. As a final test we swapped the ECM from the starboard engine and it started right up. So the mystery is solved.

September 11, 2022 at 3:54 pm Tony, Rob and the forum in general, I just re-read the article “Boost, EGT and Horsepower” and I think I have my answer but I am going to ask anyway.Ā  First the operating context.Ā  Yesterday(Saturday) we left the dock and were headed to our favorite swimming hole on the North side of Kelley’s Island on Lake Erie.Ā  We did our usual multi-stage warm up.Ā  Start the engines just before loosing dock lines then a 5-7min no wake run a…

November 2, 2023 at 7:31 am I’m seeing 2 recent issues that I think may be related. When I recently changed by engine fuel filter, fuel continued to drip out of the housing when the filter was removed. The engine has started to crank a long time (30-60 sec) before starting – Ā  like it was having to build up fuel pressure. Ā This only happens on the first start of the day and I keep the oil pan heaters on all the time. Ā I also have dual racor filters and change …

October 30, 2023 at 9:14 am I just pulled the head off one of my ’97 6bta 370 hp engines w/1350 hours due to a coolant leak at the right front of the motor. I have had no overheat issues but I haven’t had the boat that long, and it still ran up to rated 3000 RPM with no smoke. I found two cracked pistons in cylinders 1&6. I have attached the worse of the two below, which was in #6 hole, furthest away from the leak. Does anyone have any idea what could cause…

October 31, 2023 at 10:28 am Amazing that the engine was still able to make rated RPM w/no ill signs.Ā  I would bet the coolant leak is a separate problem.Ā  Take a look at the head gasket.Ā  Typically these engines first leak from coolant passage to outside, not to the combustion chamber, near #1 cylinder.

October 24, 2023 at 1:17 am Hi there.Ā  I recently bought a 2001 Topaz 32 Express in Australia. It has twin 2012 Cummins QSB 5.9 480hp.Ā  The boat runs great and been very reliable so far but I notice the starboard motor burns 10% more fuel than port.Ā  Could this be a prop or alignment issue or something with the engine?Ā  Thanks RobĀ

October 19, 2023 at 2:25 pm When releasing fuel from the Fleetguard fuel filters to check for water in the diesel, do you also have to re-prime the filter?Ā  This question pertains to both the on engine as well as off engine filters.

October 23, 2023 at 6:37 am Typically you do not have to reprime and to drain them as you are only talking a teaspoon or so. Drain into a clean coffee cup or? What 1st comes out is the water as it sits on the bottom..Ā  Sometimes you have to tap the filter few times to get it to come out.
