November 23, 2023 at 10:44 am I recently purchased a 2004 Sea Ray 390MY with 6CTA 480CE M4 engines. Ā  The sale was via a broker and I had no contact with the owner. Ā The previous owner spent lots of $ on the boat and engines. Ā I want to see if he replaced the heads with the updated version that corrects the dropped valve seat issue. Ā Where is the part number on the heads? Ā I have looked but do not see the part number. Ā Thanks

December 13, 2023 at 4:06 pm Good friend of mine parked his 390 at AYB waiting to rebuild a motor after an exhaust valve seat failure that happened a few days after he bought the boat. Ā Iā€™ve been down there a few times helping him . We moved his boat to another part of VABch . Ā Another 390 owned by the guy that runs the 390 has his boat at the Cavalier Marina. December 13, 2023 at 9:49 am I had been cruising for about an hour at about 8-10knots. When I hooked it up to 16-17 knots a loud alarm sounded as I ran a couple minutes to catch a bridge. When I powered down the oil pressure gauge went to 0 but immediately can up to 30 psi while idling and in gear. The engines were installed new in 1998 on my 1987 sportfish by the prior owner. Any ideas what to look at? Ken

December 13, 2023 at 1:11 pm Check your oil level.Ā  Since you were referencing the difference between running at hull speed, level, and up on plane, bow up attitude, there is a chance that low oil level could cause this.Ā  Engine orientation and oil movement in the engine.Ā  easy check and easy remedy. Could also be a sensor, a sensor connection…..Ā  Start with the easy stuff first and then work your way up the complexity tree.

December 12, 2023 at 5:50 pm I have a 36Ā“ Luhrs with twin Cummins 6CTAĀ“s and a Kohler generator. Was running a couple of weeks ago and hit the trim tabs and both engines shut down. No clue if the tabs caused an electrical spike that was just enough to fry a weak circuit but the timing does suggest it. After a lot of testing and poking around, I confirmed the fuel solenoids are closing as soon as the generator is started. Engines both run normally if I donĀ“t crank the genera…

December 2, 2023 at 9:39 am I noticed on our port engine turbo leaking a little tarish/oil onto the transmission housing. Kept my eye on it until today. Today I noticed a lot more drip of this stuff with some spray. Any ideas of what is going on here? We have about 200 more miles to the Gulf Coast to have it worked on. November 28, 2023 at 6:06 pm Sorry, I was not trying to correct anyone’s terminology. Just pointing out that the starters discussed here are not the same as in an old Ford Fairlane. Those really did have a genuine bendix starter, which is a cheap alternative for relatively low-end use. Because of the extra electrical power needed to push the pinion in a Cummins starter the mag switch is quite important.
