I had been cruising for about an hour at about 8-10knots. When I hooked it up to 16-17 knots a loud alarm sounded as I ran a couple minutes to catch a bridge. When I powered down the oil pressure gauge went to 0 but immediately can up to 30 psi while idling and in gear.

The engines were installed new in 1998 on my 1987 sportfish by the prior owner.

Any ideas what to look at?

    Something Very Simple

Check your oil level.Ā  Since you were referencing the difference between running at hull speed, level, and up on plane, bow up attitude, there is a chance that low oil level could cause this.Ā  Engine orientation and oil movement in the engine.Ā  easy check and easy remedy.

Could also be a sensor, a sensor connection…..Ā  Start with the easy stuff first and then work your way up the complexity tree.
