    • ECM Recalibration and Hunting

This topic has 3 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byRay Isaac 6 months ago

August 20, 2023 at 12:05 pm Everyone, I recently did the ECM recalibration on my 480CEā€™s and it definitely improved my idle quality and throttle response. After doing the ECM upgrades I experienced RPM hunting on both engines so I did the fuel rack friction adjustment. The Port motor responded perfectly to this but the SB motor still hunts when cold but settles down when warmed up. Iā€™ve tried to fine-tune the adjustment and I think Iā€™m in the ā€œsweet spotā€ since any adjustm…

September 30, 2023 at 12:54 pm Update: The SB motor went back to hunting again until warmed up. Iā€™m lost as to why and not sure how to correct it. As Iā€™ve posted Iā€™ve adjusted the friction screw both ways and while it solves the issue temporarily, the next time I run the motors cold it hunts again. If I understood the mechanics of the adjustment I could possibly make an informed adjustment vs. just trial and error. Does anyone know what the adjustment physically does or what …

September 11, 2023 at 12:55 pm A guy I know has a 39 SeaRay with QSB 5.9 380 motors. Ā At speeds above 18 knots he gets an overheat alarm. Ā Engines are at 210Ā° at 18 knots cruise speed (verified with laser therm). Ā His mechanic tells him 210Ā° is normal for that motor and he thinks the overheat alarm is due to a bad sender. September 26, 2023 at 12:00 pm While replacing the thermostats on one of my 1996 6CTAs, I decided to pull the hoses that attach to the top of the expansion tank. They connect to the top of the turbo, the exhaust manifold, and two points near the top of the engine. I believe these lines allow air to burp out of the system. Good thing I pulled them, because two of the four fittings were 100% plugged with rust. An 1/8″ drill cleared the blockages. I blew all of the hoses a…

I noticed that the belt tensioner on the engine with the loose bolts jumps a litle more than the one that did not lossened the bolts but nothing extreme.

September 25, 2023 at 8:32 am The white smoke is at the dock at idle? cold? or at running speeds hot? On that list you may add a valve clearance check/adjust if itĀ“s too long since the last one.
