    • Freeing Up a Seized Aluminum Detroit Blower?

This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byPatrick Presti 1 year ago

October 6, 2021 at 4:11 pm Hey Guys, Any recommendations on penetrating oils for freeing up seized aluminum parts? I acquired a blower for a 4-53 Detroit where the previous took the blower off of the motor but didn’t do anything with it. He said the motor was sitting around for 20 years. Before taking the blower apart, I would like to try to free it up first. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Pat

August 22, 2022 at 10:28 am I freed it up.Ā  I stuck it in a bucket of diesel for a couple of months.Ā  I eventually was able to start rocking it back and forth until it started spinning freely.

Pat If it just a low oil pressure switch… then any switch that fits physically where the old one did should work fine. The switches are typically normally closed, FYI. Also, some of the switches are adjustable so you can modify the alarm set point.

    • Re-power MerCruiser 5.7 Horizon MPI to a Yanmar 4LHA-STE 230hp

      September 15, 2018 at 9:32 am Hi Guys, Has anyone had any experience re-powering a boat from a MerCruiser 5.7 MPI to a Yanmar 4LHA-STE 230hp? I was curious if there was any performance gains with the re-power… I have a 27′ H&H lobster boat with a MerCruiser 5.7 MPI with a 2.5:1 ZF63a gearbox, 1.5″ shaft, and a 20″x17″ 4-Blade propeller. Right now she cruises 14kts at 3400 RPM’s. Ideally, I would like a 17-18kt cruise. Any insight…

September 16, 2018 at 9:40 am Noting that matters–The 230 was an early rating with hotter fuel used in a test cell.. Later on, Yanmar rated the engine in a test cell using colder fuel, hence the engine could make 10 HP more at WOT/3300+ RPM… Tony

    • What Holes to Mount a 6BTA 270 Expansion Tank

December 23, 2017 at 4:44 am Hi guys, Attached below is a picture of the expansion tank to my 6BTA 270 engine. What (3) holes should I use to mount the tank to the cylinder head bolt holes. I put the tank up to the cylinder head and it looks like multiple holes can be used to mount the tank. I’m not sure which ones should be used. Thanks, Pat

December 10, 2017 at 7:25 am Patrick, Got it….on the purpose of the valve. As Rob stated……..no need for a ball valve between the oil pan and the oil drain hose. I have purchased three 6BTA 370s from Tony over the past 9 years. ALL three were shipped from Tony’s shop with a drain hose attached to the pan. Nothing cheap about the drain hose Tony attached, same blue high pressure hose used between the trannies and gear cooler. In the two pictures attach…

August 25, 2017 at 8:19 am Will do. The engine is going in a 30′ Alura. It’s a fairly simple run to the transom of the boat. There will be a 45 degree elbow, then a straight run to a 5″ Vernatone Inline Mufller, and then a straight shot to the transom. Probably a 15′ total run. I will be back on here once I get the engine running and on the boat. Pat
