Thanks for the information Tony.Ā Have you ever heard of replacing the diesel fuel in the engine with fuel injector calibration fluid for long term storage?Ā I plan on laying this engine up for five or more years.
Thanks again,
PatĀ

I freed it up.Ā I stuck it in a bucket of diesel for a couple of months.Ā I eventually was able to start rocking it back and forth until it started spinning freely.

Yeah I understand all of that Tony. I appreciate your reply. I plan on rebuilding the entire engine anyway so I’ll have the whole engine apart. Did Detroit make a 4-53T Marine setup? Is a turbo available for the jacket water cooled exhaust manifold?
Thanks,
Pat

Hi Corey,
There is no gear oil pressure guage on my panel so I assume it’s a pressure alarm sensor?

The older Capilano pumps all recommended straight Dextron Spec ATF..
Tony
So you wouldn’t cut the Dextron with Diesel?

If you can find a really good 4LHA 230/240 and set it up 100% right, then you will be able cruise with that model Yanmar and be within Yanmarās guide lines at where your āgasserā cruises now ( maybe a tad better) , but at 1/3ā³ less fuel burnā¦ā¦That may also be an important part of your decision too ??
If you really want to CRUISE at 17-18Kts. then you have to up your available and true āCRUISE HPā.. That means, like Rob said ā a 6LPA 315 or a Cummins 6BTA 330 or 370 Diamond..
The 4LHA 230/240 is a really great engine, but it has it limits..
Tony
All great info. Engine wise, what’s the difference between the 230/240 HP models?

I just looked at the injection pump and it looks like the lift pump was bolted to the side of the injection pump. What would go where the cam driven pump would go? A cover plate?

My fuel filter doesnĀ“t come off the cylinder head like the one in the picture. My secondary fuel filter is mounted on the side of the engine block.

Hi Guys,
Yeah, it’s a standard mounted turbo.
I have the same tank as the one in your picture. It looks like that one can be mounted higher if needed.
Quickserve doesn’t really have a good part schematic of the expansion tank. Does it call for (3) bolts to secure the tank to the head and what size are the bolts? M8 x 1.25 x 20 or 25’s?
Thanks,
Pat

The purpose to replace the drain plug with a valve is to have a length of hose with a fitting attached to the end of the hose so I can use an electric or hand pump to remove the engine oil during oil changes.
