    Hi Guys,

I have a 4-53 Detroit Diesel that I plan on laying up for many years coming up.  Any suggestions on how to store the fuel system for long term storage?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Pat

    Storage

Thanks for the information Tony.  Have you ever heard of replacing the diesel fuel in the engine with fuel injector calibration fluid for long term storage?  I plan on laying this engine up for five or more years.

    Thanks again,

    Pat

My only suggestion would be this,.

Put in fresh oil and a new oil filter

Run the engine on fresh #2 diesel (and oil) with a 50:1 ratio with mixed with engine oil.. for 20-30 minutes———Why?–Because  all the new ULTRA low Sulphur diesel sold now is many times more corrosive and tends to hold moisture… It shows up on the fuel system parts like it never used to in the engines  that sit for long periods.. We starting seeing this about 8-10 yrs ago here in Calif mostly related to injection pump governors hanging up…

Luckily, a Detroit fuel system is very tolerant, but since you asked, this is my take.
