Hi Guys,
Does anyone know what ball valve I should use to convert the drain plug to a ball valve for the rear of the oil pan?
Thanks,
Pat

Patrick,
Got it….on the purpose of the valve.
As Rob stated……..no need for a ball valve between the oil pan and the oil drain hose.
I have purchased three 6BTA 370s from Tony over the past 9 years.
ALL three were shipped from Tony’s shop with a drain hose attached to the pan. Nothing cheap about the drain hose Tony attached, same blue high pressure hose used between the trannies and gear cooler.
In the two pictures attached you can see the blue drain hose attached to the back of the pan with a 90 degree fitting.
I have a 12 volt Jabsco Water Puppy pump with a neoprene impeller setup for oil changes. 13 gallons of oil sucked out into a waste oil bucket in less than a 2 minutes…..
Keep us posted,
Bill D

The valve is not needed if you use a good quality hose with a securely capped off end.
On my 6BTA’s the oil drain lines from the pans are capped and secured in the engine room. In this engine room I am able to sit a drain pan low enough to lay the drain line into it and let it self drain.
On my Yanmar 6LP I sourced the hose/fitting through the Yanmar distributor since it’s a banjo style setup integrated with the dipstick tube. Then I cut the hose to a reasonable length and secured it out of the way in the engine room. Would connect it to a pump on a bucket and suck the oil out of the pan.
No valves on either setup. Just use high quality hose and fittings and secure the hose end high in the engine room where you can see it during your routine check of things so you know all is well.
Here’s some pics.

The purpose to replace the drain plug with a valve is to have a length of hose with a fitting attached to the end of the hose so I can use an electric or hand pump to remove the engine oil during oil changes.

Pat,
I’m curious of the purpose of a ball valve in place of the oil drain plug?
Could you reach down to get at it after installing one ?
Thanks, Bill D

Patrick,
When you get your conversion laid out and setup if you could post some specs and pics here that would be great for all.
Thanks.

Nevermind. I figured it out. I need a straight thread to pipe thread adapter…
