    • SMX Double Double Quantum Fuel Filter Change..Thought I would Share

April 15, 2024 at 3:32 pm Sharing with the forum the importance of keeping any crud or water out of the “last chance” fuel filter on the QSB.5.9 480. I cut the filters open to look over the filter media and inside the cannisters. OK, I’m running a QSB 5.9 480…just turned 305 hrs over 2.5Ā  summer seasons. I use Biobor JF as preventive maintenance dose. Full disclosure I do not rountinely or at allĀ  drain the bottom of the filters to check for water…

    • Sharing QSB 5.9 Freshwater Flush Zincs

April 3, 2024 at 11:17 am Hello forum members, I figured I’d share the pictures of the three zincs removed from the QSB 5.9 480 after a five month summer season up here in Kittery Maine. I was diligent in freshwater flushing the engine after each use. Total hours on the season was +- 150 hrs. burning 4 gal/hr on the season. From L to Right: Bottom of after cooler…..Top of aftercooler….Heat exchanger. Note the degradation in the bottom aftercooler zinc&#…

April 5, 2024 at 8:36 am 100% freshwater hose blasting away through the T adaptor with engine seacock “closed in the video” and engine running. About halfway through the season I flushed with seacock “open”. It was a bugger reaching down and closing the 2″ seacock and then re-opening. I also think the zincs look normal. Prop shaft & rudder zincs (Godfrey brand, not cheap Camps) about 70% consumed, no complaints. The proof of the results…

October 8, 2023 at 7:39 am Informational post: I’ve made a habit of freshwater flushing the engine @ the dock after each use. I don’t use a bucket at the dock, just a quick disconnect on the freshwater hose and hose under the washrail. Boat is hauled for the season. First video is the 6th of five gallon buckets of freshwater flush thru the Cummins. Second video is seven gallons of non-tox for winterization. Note how quickly five gallons of liquid pumps through…

July 17, 2019 at 7:05 am Hello Tony, Kicking around a repower of a used lobster boat. Existing power plant is a 99 Deere 6068 225 hp rated @ 2600. Gear tag is unreadable but I believe is a Twin Disk 2:1, 1.75″ shaft swinging a 24X24 four blade. Proposed repower is a QSB 5.9 480. The gear replacement is up for discussion. I prefer to keep the engine angle the same, so I figure maybe a TD5075SC or 5075A 2.88:1 “or some other gear” swinging a 26X? prop. …

Most all of these hulls set the shaft in such a way as you have do some homework to see what will fit and clear the bilge roll/hull. Look at the picture– Get your camera behind the gear –Lay the camera on the shaft and shoot forward.. A good picture from that angle will let me ID what you have now.. Try …

Anyone have any experience with this particular model MAN ? Thanks,
