    • 6BTA 5.9 Oil Pressure Loss

October 16, 2021 at 12:01 pm 1998 Carver twin 6BTA 5.9 370HP port engine serial number 45500671. After oil change in both engines the port engine loses oil pressure with increase in RPMs. After warm up to 180 deg and running up to 1500 RPM the oil pressure gauge on bridge reads normal 55 PSI. Increase to 2500 RPM gauge drops to 0 PSI. No oil under engines and no loss of oil on dipstick. Temps taken with infrared thermometer and bridge gauges do not show any overheating…

September 30, 2021 at 5:42 am I have a 40ft boat with a 2003 cummins 450 diamond. 1.34 gear ratio. I believe the prop currently on it is a 22×20 4 blade but I need to have that pulled and checked. But if the pitch is correct I am calculating a prop slip of 42% at 2300rpm, 19mph. Boat is currently over propped and plan on pulling soon. Going to take a couple maybe 3″ if possible out of the pitch. At least that was my initial plan. But if a different size and or sha…

August 12, 2021 at 12:36 pm I understand that #2 connects to the battery and #1 connects to the ignition in one of the pictures on this site it says use it if you want the alternator to turn on faster. Can someone elaborate on this? Like what are we talking about time or at a higher rpm? Reason I am asking is I am pretty sure my alternators are not charging the battery but I am also pretty sure neither #1 and #2 are not connected. I will not be at the boat till tomorrow…

October 8, 2021 at 5:41 am Iā€™m experiencing air in the fuel (a lot) and the loss of performance that goes with it, its clearly visible in the clear tube I have installed pre lift pump. Prior to stripping everything out of the fuel delivery system to troubleshoot I had 1 HG of restriction after the filters, vac gauge installed on outlet side of filter. Testing to date has has seen me strip everything in the fuel delivery/return on both engines to. Supply 5/8 SS pickup from…

    • ValvTect Diesel

This topic has 4 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated bySteve Lewis 2 years ago

October 7, 2021 at 10:23 am As sort of a default, we tend to lean towards marinas that carry ValvTect diesel, thinking it’s healthier for the engine. I’m intertested in feedback as to how important this is? I guess an alternative is to get generic diesel as long as you’re dealing with a US marina that has relatively clean fuel, then you can also use an additive.(?)

October 8, 2021 at 12:39 pm Fuel Polishers are an interesting subject. Some of the big trawlers and long range cruisers have separate polishers. Conceptually those are just filters that “pre-filter” the fuel in the tank, some even try to kill microbes with UV light…… I guess the idea is to clean the fuel before it gets to the Primary and Last Chance filters. Get rid of the junk before it has a chance to possibly cause an issue while out at sea. …

September 22, 2021 at 8:21 am Does anyone have a recommendation for what to use to clean the engine/trans? Or do you have a product/procedure you use? I have no need to make it perfect. And aside from pulling the engines, I have no room to do that either. But I would like to use some sort of spray on/wash off cleaner for the block etc. I looked through Tonys Tips but didnt see anything. Also couldnt find anything via a search function.
