Twin diesel with out drives

Hello Im new, I am looking to find out if all marine diesel engines with in the 150 – 500HP can be used with outdrives. I am building a barge and would like to use out drives with diesel engines. I have seen volvo penta with alphas and a yanmar with an I/O, but I am interesed in cummins, kubota or cat as well. Any help on the subject would be a great help Thank you

Mercruiser?

Mercury MerCruiser has a diesel package with their Bravo 3 drives.
I believe the engines come from Volkswagen
