October 9, 2017 at 12:19 pm I have twin 6BTA 5.9 Mk3 370 hp diamond series CPL 2208 motors the two oil pressure gauges read vastly different. I presume just a gauge anomaly, but the question what should I expect for oil pressure at 1500 or so RPM? thanks in advance

March 14, 2018 at 5:40 am I was going to lube up all my thru hulls while the boat was out..the engine thru hulls need an extension handle to get going .i usually use white lithium grease but was wondering if someone had a good way of freeing them up that last over time.

April 25, 2018 at 4:41 pm My starboard main closed with an extension for engine flushing, then stuck solid afterwards. I finally was able to get it opened by putting a wrench on and working it pretty hard. I picked up a zerc fitting, but it on the drain, pumped in some grease and exercised it about 20 times and can now move it by hand with out the extension. When time permits, I’m going to pull the hose off, close the valve and pour barnacle buster in it to help …

February 11, 2018 at 4:14 pm My 2001 M673 with 550 hrs is blowing a lot of black smoke and it seems the oil level is high…. Not foamy, could it be diesel fuel in the oil? I changed the oil and the problem continued? I changed the fuel filters and impeller with no change in the problem – smells and seems hot? and lots of soot in the water. Never had soot before and not sure if hotter than usual – the high temp switch did not shut it down Could it be a t…

February 12, 2018 at 1:47 pm Attached are some pictures of the generator…. The last picture is the soot on the water. I ran the generator with the air cleaner out and the top off, no smoke with no load, as soon as I added a load it began to puff black smoke. The filters were crumbling when removed, intact while installed. Let me know what you think. Mike

September 23, 2017 at 8:00 pm Hi all, I have a 2002 31 foot express sport fisher with stock installed Chatfield Blue water marine dripless seals. When I had bough the boat 2 years ago theseals were leaking so I had the boat hauled and seals replaced. They are leaking again after about 300 hrs. Both these seals had also leaked in the boats past, the generator sits sideways between the 2 shafts, the electrical end of the generator had to be replaced and the water pump Pullys …

October 1, 2017 at 8:46 am Here’s what I’ve learned about shaft seals. Traditional are the safest but will still drip a little. Tides are good….but, can fail if the cooling water flow is interrupted, it can cause the lip seal to seize to the shaft causing flooding and other damage. Also Lip seals eventually wear out but a spare can be left of the shaft. PSS are good…but, the hose can fail/tear causing flooding. PSS recommends replacing the hose …

    • Aetna Tachs

June 4, 2017 at 11:01 am I have a pair of Aetna Tachs on my 6 BTA with hour meters. from Aetna Engineering. The hour meters are badly out of sync – Over 100 hrs. I have never run one motor independently of the other. One runs markedly faster than the other. Certainly an issue with the tachs themselves. I have swapped them out from port engine to starboard and the fast one runs fast no matter. This certainly is a minor issue, lets call it a source of irritatio…

    • hose replacement

This topic has 6 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 6 years ago

June 1, 2017 at 2:28 pm I went to the seaboard site to look at some fuel hoses I need to replace. See attached picture, there is a filter in this picture But on my motor the filter is on the other side. 6BTA 5.9 Mk3 Diamond series 370 hp cpl 2208. So in order to get the right fuel hoses what do I need to order? I think I might need to replace all these fuel delivery hoses. Which ones are pertinent to my motor?

June 2, 2017 at 6:38 pm 100% yes……………….If you suspect you are having fuel supply issue, nothing better than installing a 0-30 PSI High quality LIQUID filled gauge on that filter to troubleshooting issues…………….Use not less that a 3 ft hose to DAMPEN the readings with a full 360 degree loop ( or more) in the hose.. January 30, 2017 at 11:32 am I have the kit to change my gaskets at the end of the heat exchanger on my CPL 2208 6BTA 5.9 Mk3 370 hp. The diagram attached shows a sequence for the gasket and a round small doughnut that is incorrect. Note 38,39, 40 and 41 referenced in the diagram What is the proper sequence – the metal end cap, rubber gasket, and rubber doughnut?
