I have twin 6BTA 5.9 Mk3 370 hp diamond series CPL 2208 motors the two oil pressure gauges read vastly different. I presume just a gauge anomaly, but the question what should I expect for oil pressure at 1500 or so RPM?

    thanks in advance

    Gauge could have been sticking??

    Does it matter? NO..

You are on the high side of the spec.

They are many (MOST) that would prefer that than the other way around

    High oil pressure

I had a sudden increase in oil pressure on my port 6BTA5.9 370hp engine. I’ve changed sender, changed filter, renewed pressure regulator, even renewed cooler housing, no change. Also ran up with a mech gauge fitted which verified the pressure. How can this be? Is it possible my gauge was reading low before and something happened there?

My pressure now, verified by mech gauge, running warm, is around 75psi at 2000 rpm, 72 at 1800 and drops to 30 at 600. It seems to jump when I get up to 1000rpm.

Oils sample lab reports are good. Cut open the old oil filter and clean.

    I’m stumped!

    Primeinterest II

I had varying oil pressure readings from one 5.9 to the other, from pilot house to fly bridge also. I eliminated the problem by standardizing the resistance reading between the different senders. 2001, 4788 Bayliner w/2016 370’s

Use your Electrical Analog Gauges more as indicator more than than absolute number.. If you want an accurate numbers, then you need to install a high quality mechanical test gauge to see what things really are……….

As to what you should see or what is normal when up to operating temp ( 160-190F)……..Idle, 5-15 PSI, cruise at 1500, maybe 25-40, high cruise , maybe 30-60 PSI..

Anything within these ranges is 100% normal and within the engine specs.

    Mike,

I have the same 370 with 180 hours on it. Bought it as a new ReCon from Tony here on the forum.

I run 13 qts. in the oil pan. Wolverine oil pan heater on so engine oil is always warm at a cold start.

The engine also has a 160F Tstat in place of the factory 180F.

    Here’s a pic of the gauge panel running @ 2600 rpm. Oil pressure ? 60-65 psi ??

@ 800 rpm +- the needle will be between 0 psi and the first hash mark. 20 psi maybe ?

    Hope this helps you ?

    Regards, Bill D
