December 11, 2016 at 9:08 pm 1. I want to remove shift and trolling solenoids to clean screens. Can I just unscrew and spray with brake cleaner? Will that be ok for the o-rings?   2. I removed the 24mm bolt just under the filter in an attempt to clean the suction screen. Oil came rushing out and it appeared to be more of a cap plug and I didn’t immediately see the suction screen. Help.     thanks in advance….

December 6, 2016 at 12:32 pm Can a Cummins ETS binnacle setup be swapped out/added to a boat that currently has separate electronic shifters/mechanical throttle controls?  The separate shift/throttle is on the 07 Meridian 391, but in 08 they switched to the ETS binnacle on the same motors. Id consider doing this to add the sync feature on the ETS, and removing the shifters currently there would free up some space at the helm for some electronics. Thank you!

December 6, 2016 at 1:29 pm Hi – We just pumped the oil out of our 6cta 8.3’s cpl 1282.  The spec sheet says 18 quarts pan capacity, 23.2 quarts total system capacity.  We got ~ 4 gallons per engine, which seems low.  The dip stick was complete clear after we pumped the oil out, and the we have an oil changer system which pulls from the drain plug on the pan. Any ideas why my volume appears lower than the spec sheet?  Level was just below the top of the dipstic…

    • Convert Fresh water cooling to keel cooling Cummins 6BTA

This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byCaleb Johnson 8 years ago

December 5, 2016 at 12:51 pm I run my boat in very silty and shallow sandy conditions and I cannot keep my raw water pump working so I would like to change to keel cooling. My current setup runs raw water through my aftercooler, gear oil cooler, heat exchanger and out the exhaust elbow. I am wondering if I can just use my raw water pump to circulate coolant through my aftercooler, gear oil cooler, engine and then through an over sized fernstrum keel cooler? I understand it …

December 5, 2016 at 7:09 pm Thank you David for the reply.  So it sounds like the coolant circulation pump should have enough power to push coolant through the engine, transmission oil cooler and keel cooler? And if that works than the aftercooler could be connected to a separate keel cooler and circulated with the raw water pump. I wish this site had a picture of the coolant routing with arrows drawn in showing the flow. I saw a picture like this but it was for fuel flow.…

So I’m wondering how tough it is to remove these 2 things. Things to do to prepare for removal. I’ve read some nuts/bolts may be stuck so once off I may need to cut them?
