Hi – We just pumped the oil out of our 6cta 8.3’s cpl 1282.  The spec sheet says 18 quarts pan capacity, 23.2 quarts total system capacity.  We got ~ 4 gallons per engine, which seems low.  The dip stick was complete clear after we pumped the oil out, and the we have an oil changer system which pulls from the drain plug on the pan.

Any ideas why my volume appears lower than the spec sheet?  Level was just below the top of the dipstick range and stays steady at that point.  Thanks for any and all updates.  Also, installed oil filter relocation kit and moved the water filter on the port engine.  If you have a tight installation, this is well worth the time and money, it makes all future work much easier.

    disregard this question!

Tony has a very nice writeup on oil pan capacities that I hadn’t spotted before.  That cleared it all up for me.  Best  Jim
