    • Cummins 5.9 QSB 425 fuel pump

March 31, 2023 at 3:24 pm A local cummins shop recommends getting rid of the fuel pump on the Qsb 5.9 and going with a 100 or 150gpm lift pump instead. Ā  His opinion is the original fuel pumps on the engine is prone to failure.Ā  Ā  Any thoughts ?

April 2, 2023 at 2:17 pm The engine is a 2005 with 143 hours. I stripped the engine down to the block to service everything and repaint it. So I have the ecm and fuel pump already removed….and you’re right it was a pain.   Are there fuel pumps more suitable for the marine application instead of an automotive style ? Or would it be better while it is apart to replace with a newer style OEM fuel pump ?

February 11, 2023 at 7:01 pm QSB 5.9 425 ho   Can anyone point me to where I can find all the torque specs for this engine ?   I need to put all the accessories back on this block after removing, cleaning, sandblasting and painting. My local cummins dealer recently moved out of the area.

November 9, 2019 at 12:39 pm So after cleaning the aftercooler core I wanted to pressure test it for leaks before assembling the aftercooler. I saw a picture of the way Seaboard tests them but I wanted something I could hook up quickly since I have 2 aftercoolers to test. I thought I would share my cheap and easy design . ABS 4″ pipe with a 5″x4″ reducer, end caps, with one end tapped with a female air fitting and valve so I can regulate the air pressure.…

December 30, 2019 at 2:48 pm I have QSB’s 2005 and want to do away with the old smartcraft screens, and upgrade to the SMX panels on this site. I also have the mechanical gauges that are smartcraft. My question is, do I use the original wiring harness/loom on the engine or does the engine wiring also get changed when I upgrade the control panel, and do I eliminate all the mechanical gauges?

December 21, 2019 at 10:04 am SMX is our LOGO. ā€œSEAMAXā€ belongs to another company and has been used at times, or by others to describe our pump or copies of the pump we developed in conjunction with Seafirst in S. Korea. My ideas, their grunt work…. We have about 5000 units in the field now and they still make them (Casting, shaft, cam, back plate, etc etc) today for us. Their main business these days is outboard Steering systems. Teleflex is the market they go after.…

December 11, 2019 at 11:06 pm QSB 5.9 oil filter tubes. It feels to me like the oil tubes are solid with a sleeve to protect from chafing. Can I remove the sleeves without replacing the tubes??

December 7, 2019 at 10:39 pm If a guy is running bow up most of the time, should the pan sump and pickup tube be moved from the front of the engine to the rear to reduce the risk of oil pump starvation ? And should the gas recirculation tube be moved to the front of the engine to reduce the risk of oil getting sucked into the turbo ? Just thinking out loud…

November 8, 2019 at 6:53 pm My seawater pump is original and was told it is a 2701 series, it has a splined shaft and someone said the rebuild kit I needed was a 25125-SHW. So I ordered a kit and the kit is missing some parts. The tech sheet in the rebuild kit says I needed the 25126-SHW. Can anyone clarify this for me ? Any help is appreciated.

October 20, 2019 at 8:39 pm How much corrosion/pitting on the sealing surface between the core and the housing is ok to just grease up and reassemble? And would it be beneficial to have the surface machined smooth then reassemble? Thanks
