    • QSC 500 – front of engine oil leak

This topic has 8 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byTom Bartolomei 2 years ago

August 18, 2021 at 4:44 am Began noticing a few weeks ago, oil splatter on bilge floor directly below front of port engine. Appears to be a leak from a seal which then gets flung around. Is there a seal or gasket in this area behind the vibration damper? Thanks, Frank

    • My fresh water flush

May 15, 2017 at 3:12 pm Just installed 2 new aftercoolers and at the same time took the opportunity to install fresh water flushing. I do NOT have a water lift muffler and I have a good exhaust design which allowed me to design and install an engine OFF flush system. I had a stainless bung welded into the stainless water pipe between the sea water pump and gear/fuel cooler.Ā  This is the initial install and I will plumb to a manifold so I hook the hose up once and can s…

    • QSC Aftercooler Air Inlet/Outlet Hoses

October 31, 2019 at 4:15 pm Having a hard time getting these hoses air tight after having disconnected them to remove the AC’s. The stainless steel bands are as tight as I can get them (actually worried there is too much tension on them frankly). In anyone’s experience, do these hoses take on a form of their own over time such that upon reconnecting, they just don’t seat exactly as they did before disconnecting. When I get back up to 2000+ RPM, I can f…

November 1, 2019 at 10:35 am Thanks Tony. The flange connection is air tight and no issues there. Its just the hose connection with those constant torque clamps that is giving me some grief on only the one aftercooler. The other engine, all is good and well. I will fiddle some more with it and apply rectorseal as well which I did not do initially. As usual, thanks for the tips. Tom

    • QSC Aftercooler Part Identification

October 14, 2019 at 3:00 pm In the attached diagram, there is a ring between the two O-rings (#11). I’m not familiar with what that ring is so any help would be appreciated. My aftercoolers are on the bench now at a local shop as I could not get the cores out on my own. I just want to have all the required parts upon my reassembly of them. I do have the O-ring kits and more than enough lube from seaboard. Thanks, Tom

February 20, 2018 at 8:07 pm Hi everyone. Iā€™ve been reading some great information on this forum regarding the recommended aftercooler maintenance procedures for the Cummins 8.3. During my boat survey today of a 2012 Sabre 48 with 1400 hours on the QSC 8.3 engines I was told by the broker he does not believe the aftercoolers on this boat have ever been serviced. Todayā€™s survey was just what we could complete with boat out of the water. I have my engine survey scheduled to t…

August 3, 2019 at 2:04 am I guess it’s also a case of lots of people coming on here being given bum steers by their mechanics, so they start off asking one question which then follows through to troubleshooting and then as the thread progresses, the solutions are presented so topics drift… All good info though no matter where it goes.. which I why I read most topics Steve

July 11, 2018 at 1:19 pm I purchased a 2007 391 Meridian with qsb 380 5. 9 Cummins with 330 hours last July. On the initial sea trial the port turbo was found to be seized by the engine surveyor. I had the previous owner have the turbos rebuilt . It was done by the company that did the survey. On the second sea trial both engines ran strong around 2850 wot. It has been running just as well a year later. Last night I noticed soot on the turbo and coming from behind the …

May 29, 2017 at 8:10 am I am between buying either a 2005 or a 2006 sundancer, both with Qsb 380s I was told they didn’t have the quiet idling common rail fuel system until 2006. Is there any difference in these engines? I can’t find anything to support this claim This would be my first diesel boat

    • Zeus Pod – Hydraulic Filter Assembly

This topic has 4 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 6 years ago

April 25, 2017 at 11:07 am Perhaps someone in the forum has done this or can offer general guidance on the install. I’m replacing a high pressure hydraulic filter assembly which is currently weeping a small amount of hydraulic fluid. Ā Appears to be coming from the housing threads (the filter assembly comes in two halves, an upper and lower). Ā Couple of questions since I cannot locate a service manual for this. (1) Is is okay to use a thread sealant like Rector seal …

May 22, 2017 at 7:33 pm The high pressure part of a hyd system can be tough to deal with in some cases when it come to very small leaks / sweats, etc.. .. We always use some type of sealant or lube, but it’s far from “one type fits all”. Some types of fittings need anaerobics, some need special pipe dope, and other just need some light grease. When o-rings are involved, it usually just comes do to a light coating of grease as the “O-Ring”…

    • QSB 5.9 vs. 480CE

May 19, 2017 at 5:18 am I am new to the site and new to big diesels, though I have been messing about in boats for a long time. Considering purchasing a 2004-07 Sea Ray, and looking at 390DA or 420DA. The 420 is equipped with the notorious 480CE, and I have read a lot about it’s propensity to drop valves. I have also read Tony’s article on propping the boat like a 450C, but I’m still getting the feeling that the engine is a bit fragile. The 390 Se…

May 4, 2017 at 7:39 pm This a the “factory” system but it’s really not a CCV system.. It’s “idea” is to vent the Ā “crankcase blowby gases to a low pressure areas” near the air cleaner……………………….We have done a few custom Envirovent systems for the QSC, but until you have a “messy” issue that your want to mitigate, I’d let it be..   TonyĀ
