June 1, 2023 at 4:19 am Waiting on some fittings to test this -what fuel pressure readingā€™s should I be seeing at the output side of the on engine fuel filter housing on a 2006 4BTA 250HP? WOT in neutral? WOT under load? Idle? Thanks

July 16, 2023 at 2:50 am Fuel PSI reading are usually bouncy, but 10-25PSI would seem about right to me for this fuel system design.. If you took readings, fill us in with what you saw.

January 26, 2021 at 5:26 am I have two 4btaā€™s with 1600 hours – Ive never serviced the heat exchangers, last year I removed the aft end caps off both, they where immaculate with no blockage or evidence of corrosion, the engines operate in salt water and have been fresh water flushed after every use since new. Engine temps are stable at 180 -185 degrees (with 180ā€™ thermostatā€™s) regardless of load apart from slow speed running- they both tend to run a lot cooler. Due t…

November 30, 2021 at 3:09 am I used gates marine fuel hose, 3/8’s ID if I recall correctly. Marine fuel hose has a larger outside diameter, and only the Gate’s branded marine hose was a perfect fit, it was slightly larger than the other brands. Cut to size, then run a knife down it to form a U shape.

Side note, whenever I have a question and search the forum seems like you have already asked the same question! I must be right behind you in my 4BTA projects! Clint

    • Air in fuel – cavitation vs restriction and entrained air

October 8, 2021 at 5:41 am Iā€™m experiencing air in the fuel (a lot) and the loss of performance that goes with it, its clearly visible in the clear tube I have installed pre lift pump. Prior to stripping everything out of the fuel delivery system to troubleshoot I had 1 HG of restriction after the filters, vac gauge installed on outlet side of filter. Testing to date has has seen me strip everything in the fuel delivery/return on both engines to. Supply 5/8 SS pickup from…

October 12, 2021 at 12:56 pm The clear vinyl tubing should be a heavy wall to prevent a collapse. However with the aeration I would not expect that to be a problem. No guarantee of course.

August 23, 2021 at 7:01 am I have been troubleshooting a loss of WOT RPMā€™s on both engines under load, using a borescope I followed the supply lines across the top of the tanks to where they exit the aft compartment thru the bulkhead into the ER. I recently did a water pump replacement where it was necessary to remove the table and seat, then cut an access hole through the bulkhead, then remove the motor mount Before I could access the pump. The engine is also idling a little rough and I’m down 50 odd revs at WOT, any chance the lift pump is letting air into the system? Thanks ESN 46514245

I will pressure test the risers before I do anything, I assumed if they did fail the way they where orientated they would only leak down the exhaust,I have been told there is a possibility if they failed right up next to the turbo they could indeed leak water into the turbo at low speed, and that where 90…
