    • Hurth 630 beep at certain rpm

May 10, 2021 at 7:39 am Iā€™m stumped I get a constant beep when in gear at rpm 1100 to 1500. In neutral, no beep. If Iā€™m in gear and at 1500 and itā€™s beeping, I just put it down to idle and beep goes away I thought it was my engine but in neutral there is no beep at any rpm. But in fwd or reverse it does beep. Keep in mind, it all works great and engine runs perfect at any rpm. I can cruise at say 2500 Rpm and all is fine. No slipping, no odd noises etc. shifts fine. …

May 10, 2021 at 5:54 pm I am assuming you have Mercury SmartCraft electronics ? ……………….If so, I’d guess it’s related to one of the senders on the transmission that the electronics interpret.. Help on this will most likely only come from the Mercury tech help line.. Tony

    • Oil Test = High Aluminum

March 14, 2018 at 8:32 am I have my boat up for sale. 1999 Maxum with 2 6BTA and 530 hours. 1 engine has new turbo, both have new exhaust elbows. Both run great, get to 3000 rpm. One starts right up, the other needs a few cranks. White smoke goes away when a little warm. Survey said aftercoolers need replaced (not serviced). I’m skeptical of this but won’t get into that. Oil analysis came back and all they told me so far as aluminum is in the red. (I dont kn…

December 30, 2016 at 9:57 am So I decided to take a day and work on the boat. I set out to do a fresh water flush using (sea flush) which is like a funnel (which sits in the sea strainer) and hose that goes into a big bucket. I run the engines and generator and it sucks up the fresh water and I shut it down. 5 gallon bucket for each one. So….first up is starboard side. I get it all setup, goto flybridge and start it. Run down and water has barely moved. It’s mov…

January 10, 2017 at 1:18 pm Here’s a pic I just ran across. This shows the angle of the exhaust. Still not sure if thats acceptable, 15 degree or more but looks decent. The water line is about 4-5 inches above the bottom of the fuel tank. The exhaust “shower” is about 3 inches past the clamps on the very left. Yeah, they had plenty of room to make the riser even higher. Probably 8+ inches more room above it.

December 10, 2016 at 2:34 pm I have to remove my turbo and exhaust riser (6bta) and have a riser made. Local company wants $3200 or more…its always more. So I’m doing it myself! I always get a price first to decide if its worth my time and this is worth my time. Anyway, see the attached picture. I’m told this hose is really tough to get off. I plan on taking the turbo and riser off as one unit and then bringing it home to separate. Getting a quote from DeA…

December 12, 2016 at 1:16 pm Nerf football…good idea. The port side exhaust hose has aĀ strap around it and screwed into the floor above for support. I wasn’t sure why one side had this and one didn’t but that riser was replaced last year so I’m guessing they supported it above the waterline with the strap and just left it there. I’ll do the same. A local mechanic wanted to charge me $2200 for the riser when I just ordered one for $1290. Not sur…

    • removing turbo and exhaust riser 1 2

This topic has 26 replies, has 6 voices, and was last updated byRob Schepis 7 years ago

November 7, 2016 at 9:13 pm 17 year old boat, exhaust riser is pitted I’m told. The port side has been replaced. Also told my turbo needs looked at. It seeps a little oil at high rpms. So I’m wondering how tough it is to remove these 2 things. Things to do to prepare for removal. I’ve read some nuts/bolts may be stuck so once off I may need to cut them? Any tips and advice is appreciated.

November 27, 2016 at 11:25 am My boat is a 1999 with 6BTAs and new batteries. It’s done this since i bought the boat (3-4 months ago) and the survey mentioned nothing about it. When I turn the key the warning buzzer goes off, gauges activated, etc but then when I goto start the engines nothing. I turn the key off and do it again and they start. Both engines do this. Its really random also, sometimes they start first try and sometimes it takes 3 tries. When this happens…

November 23, 2016 at 5:17 pm Haven’t used my generator yet and I’ve been focusing on fixing other things on this new (to me ) boat. Wanted to flush generator with only 60 hours on it and noticed it wasn’t sucking in any raw water. Took out the impeller and replaced it with a new one (old one was fine) and then removed the heat exchanger and find this….see picture. Ā Well, no wonder! I guess it proves how important it is to not let sea water just sit &…

November 11, 2016 at 8:16 am I had some work done on my boat and I got the bill and it was double what I expected. I was confused and asked why and they told me because they had 2 guys working on it so the rate doubled to $170/hour. They replaced a water heater so I know it isn’t cummins related so please tell me if this post isn’t allowed. (I figured general discussion I’d be ok) Aside from the fact that I’m not sure how 2 guys fit into a small spac…

November 7, 2016 at 9:00 pm I have cummins 6bta engines and the boat is new to me but a 1999 with 500 hours. Fluids have been changed prior to my purchase. While looking everthing over I saw a dipstick on the transmission and another T-Handle type thing. When i slightly turned it I heard some air pressure release. What is this?

November 12, 2016 at 8:25 pm Great info guys! So here is my model of trans Hurth HSW 800 A2 2.0 As for that water puppy pump. I’m actually looking for something to pump out the oil from my 6BTAs, the trans, and even coolant from my generator so I can remove the heat exchanger. Do you recommend this pump for the job? It looks like just a standard bilge pump…? Side note, found out my westerbeke 12kw generator isn’t sucking any sea water at all. Only ran it f…
