Haven’t used my generator yet and I’ve been focusing on fixing other things on this new (to me ) boat. Wanted to flush generator with only 60 hours on it and noticed it wasn’t sucking in any raw water. Took out the impeller and replaced it with a new one (old one was fine) and then removed the heat exchanger and find this….see picture. Ā Well, no wonder!

I guess it proves how important it is to not let sea water just sit & destroy.

So my question is should I use something like barnicle buster or just clean by hand and use a 1/8″ rod for the tubes? I bought new end caps, gaskets, etc

    Bath & Shower

Yup, that mix will do it… a half hour bath in that and then a good fresh water rinsing. Ā Keep the pics coming, thanks.

10% muriatic acid Ā  90% water would be sufficient?

I use muriatic acid for my pool but don’t know the ratio or if its pure.

    Soak it!

Ken, that thing needs to soak in some 10:1 muriatic acid and have a nice long bath… better assess your entire seawater-side cooling circuit to ensure passages, etc. are ALL clean and ready to cool efficiently!

    Cardiologist Needed

Wow, that thing has been living on cheeseburgers and french fries! Ā Yes manually clean it out first and carefully rod out the tubes and then use a descaler – vinegar, Rydlyme, diluted acid – there are choices…
