      August 27, 2021 at 3:45 am Hey everyone, Iā€™m having an issue with one of my engines. The boat is an ā€˜01 Carolina Classic with twin Cummins 4btaā€™s, Cpl 2197. The boat starts and idles fine and will rev fine in the slip with no load. When I try to get on plane the port rpms hang up around 1700 while the stb continue to rise.       June 3, 2023 at 5:11 am I have a Cummings 6BTA engines on my Carver 410 and I removed the Aftercoolers myself and cleaned the cores and they were in pretty good condition. I did not realize I should have pressure tested them before I put them back on (my fault for not reading up on it more).       June 6, 2023 at 12:48 pm Before you reinstall the Aftercooler, get couple of bolts of the same diameter and thread. Cut off the heads. You now have a stud. Hand tighten them into one or two of the mount holes for the Aftercooler brackets. Slide the Aftercooler onto the studs and install a bolt in one of the holes not occupied by a stud. Now remove one stud and screw in a bolt and so forth. Makes the chore of installing the Aftercooler on the outboard side a lot easier. …

My boat on the port engine is a pig.. very serious pig to change. I Rectorseal #5Ā  the zinc threads themselves.Ā  Ā  Then I use pliers or a vise and a wrench to tighten the zinc into the cap.Ā  Ā Snug firmly onlyĀ  asĀ  the smaller ones can be weak and break if overtightened.       February 23, 2022 at 5:30 pm I now use a Maxwell 1800 cca capacitor to spin the starter motor on my qsb 6.7, even the Cummins tech who did the commissioning likes the setup. The 200amp alternator is connected to 400 amp hour lithium batteries. The Maxwell is about 14 lbs the lithium weight is less then half of what lead acid batteries with 4 times the useable capacity.

      September 5, 2021 at 4:28 am and as an update.. redid everything. Pressure test failed. Dropped about 1psi per hour from 25psi on the water side, so pressurised the air side (larger volume) and sealed off the water side, and it equalised the pressure, so definite leak from the core. Tested the core by itself and its a teeny tiny leak (a few teeny bubbles in dishsoap water per seccond) so may have just fractured a solder joint knocking the core out (I need to press them out…

      September 1, 2021 at 5:36 am So about to put my intercooler back together and it has the typical pitting on the internal circular face at the bottom of the body casing, it doesnt cause any issues with sealing, however I was wondering if it was worth filling the pits with a skim of JBweld or something like JB tankweld putty just to prevent condensation etc from reacting and pitting even further?
