April 26, 2019 at 1:13 pm Iā€™ve sent Tony Athens these same pictures for review, but wanted to get a thread going with my progress for all to see. Twin QSBs. ACs have been serviced 1x by a previous owner (there were 4). I donā€™t believe they removed the AC and bench serviced. Iā€™ve only done my stbd AC at the moment. Slight green corrosion on both caps. No performance issues pointing me to any problems. Caps came off easily as expected. Top zinc was mostly intact …

April 26, 2021 at 11:57 am Roky, you could always give distilled white vinegar a try too. My last aftercooler service interval was rather short so tubes weren’t bad and the vinegar cleaned them up nice.

August 14, 2020 at 7:46 am Twin QSB 5.9s. Meridian 391. Underwater exhaust. Do most boats come with mufflers? Is it a cost thing as to why Meridians didn’t come with them from the factory? My boat is a little loud. I added Centek mufflers to my idle bypass line, thinking that was where most of the noise was, and they didn’t do a whole lot. (3″ in/out, 6″x11″). I have about a 6′ run of 6″ exhaust hose from the mixer with ro…

November 11, 2020 at 7:35 pm where can the stanchions be anchored? the pipe has flanges on the ell’s and the mixer. the first flex point is after the mixer. The plan is to put a support stanchion on the mixer. on one engine it will be anchored on the transmission. the other engine pipes run aft of the transmission. I am looking for a point to anchor it on a stringer. There is my question: if I anchor it at the stringer, will engine torque / flex put stress on the flan…

November 12, 2020 at 7:59 pm Thank you. The attached photo (img 3413) is close to the way the final configuration will be for the starboard engine. I need to rise the mixer 5 more inches to bring it to the level to meet the 6″ pipe. I have 2 questions: 1. This is a heavy cast iron mixer. Will heavy wall pipe with rubber hose double clamped over it support the weight? Or do I need to make a stronger support? Like welded angle iron? 2. Once I raise the mixer to meet th…

August 14, 2020 at 4:13 am Trying to help a guy out with his 31 Bertram. He developed an issue with his port engine, black smoke and no power between 1400-2000. It will eventually make full RPMs but no weā€™re near as responsive as the starboard engine. He already replaced the fuel lift pump, fuel filters, injectors, and put a new turbo on. Any thoughts?

April 22, 2020 at 8:16 am There are a few things I can tell and a few things I cant tell from that pic. What I can tell is that you have proper insulated dry riser to a shower head style mixer on the down slope. That is good. Looks like most of the available height is being used and that is good. It looks like someone put a decent quality insulating wrap on and that is also good. The raw water is coming in at a good angle near the top and somewhat tangent to the OD so…

April 21, 2020 at 11:50 am I like the idea of a ball valve. Especially for learning and mapping how bad condensation is under your conditions. You may find you only need to open it once in a while, or only during the humid season, or you might consistently see condensation in there. If you get tired of opening the valve every run, then drill a pin hole in a plug an be done with it. If condensation doesn’t seem to accumulate, just leave it closed most of the time. …

March 28, 2019 at 8:20 am For in line drive engines where the timing cover is towards the bow and higher up, that location works fine. For V drives, the timing cover location is too low especially when underway while the bow is riding up. The valve cover option is more universal and being the highest point is best for higher blowby engines, with the option of adding an extension. And you can move the valve cover with the vent to accommodate a V or inline drive. Its a…

February 26, 2019 at 5:47 pm Both impellers failed on my Cummins 6BTA5.9s after 75 hours. I’ve been in some shallow water and maybe ingested some sandy water, but I would still expect a little more time. The only other thing worth noting: when installing these impellers they are slightly “proud” of the housing. When you put the pump housing cover back on it is tight against the impeller. This causes the cover to get very hot on initial start up. After a…
