    • Fuel Additive/Fuel Tank Polishing

April 4, 2022 at 8:25 pm Just did my annual maintenance and my 10 micron filters were BLACK.Ā  Obviously I’ve got some algae in the tank.Ā  Any recommendations on an additive?Ā  A biocide like Bioguard? Anyone ever do the fuel polishing?Ā  I’m assuming they just run the fuel through a filter and not really clean the tank.Ā  Any thoughts would be appreciated.Ā

April 13, 2022 at 8:31 pm Years ago, I had a Riviera 43 (99 model) and set up a fuel polishing system as per the attached photo.Ā  Basically two 3-way valves and a circulating pump.Ā  Also, I once had the opportunity to see inside the fuel tank of a 43 (someone else had cut one open to make it larger) and I noticed the fuel supply came from the forward bottom of the tank and the fuel returns had internal pipes leading from the forward top of the tank to the aft of the tank…

June 26, 2021 at 1:34 pm Have put about 20 hours on the motors (6CTA) since the breather kits were installed and only noticing a very small amount of oil in the jugs. Essentially the same amount on both engines. I’m told this is completely normal but wanted to run it by the forum. Thanks.

    • 160 Degree Thermostats

This topic has 13 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byRob Schepis 3 years ago

January 8, 2021 at 6:45 pm Probably a stupid question but here it goes….had my mechanic put in 160 degree thermostats for my 6CTA’s. So obviously when running the boat that’s where they stay. So my question is how would I know if the engine is overheating? Assuming if there was an issue my gauges would reflect a problem? Or my alarm I guess?

January 5, 2021 at 3:40 pm Question, I have 6CTAā€™s. Iā€™ve noticed that after some trips my coolant expansion/overflow tanks are normal level. A week or two later when I come back they are almost empty and always have to put a cup or two in them before I head out again. Boat runs great, put in 160 thermostats, No leaks as far as I can see in the diapers, donā€™t see anything in the exhaust, and coolant checks are always full. Plan on doing a pressure test in the coming we…

October 12, 2020 at 9:19 am 6CTA’s. Did an engine room check after a 95 mile run. Noticed a very small amount oil on my stbd transmission. Here are some pick of where it’s coming from. Did my best to get an “underneath” shot as well. Assuming it’s coming from the turbo?

    • Fuel Additive

September 9, 2020 at 1:41 pm I have 6CTA 450’s. Since getting the boat 2 years ago I have only used my aft fuel tank 550 gallons, (I have a 300 gallon fwd tank as well) which has been plenty for what I do around the channel islands. But i plan on doing a Cortes bank trip which is 120 miles one way. Anyway since the forward tank has not been used since I’ve had the boat should I use an additive when I fill it? Thanks.

September 9, 2020 at 1:53 pm The fwd tank actually pumps into the rear tank, not directly to the mains. Would that make a difference or same suggestion?

March 10, 2020 at 9:28 pm Not sure this is the forum but thought I’d try. I’m contemplating replacing my hynautic controls with electronic ones. I have Diamond 450’s 6CTA. I think they’re (one of them anyway) is damaging my port transmission. My last trip this past weekend the port transmission would not engage in fwd but did in reverse. Everything was fine on the way out until I pulled the anchor. I checked the trans oil and it was black an…

March 11, 2020 at 9:07 am Well it all depends on how you’re boat is configured and if you do the work yourself… the hard parts can easily run you ~$5k for a simple twin engine setup… If you want a hard quote, complete this form: https://www.sbmar.com/glendinning-control-systems/

    • Hull Strainer Question

February 11, 2020 at 7:43 pm I have a 43′ Riv with 450 Diamond’s. I’m pulling the boat next week in Ventura to replace the thru-hulls and the strainers in the boat. My mechanic, yard and the guy who works on the boat suggested the rectangular hull strainer over the scoop and getting rid of the typical basket strainers in the boat all together. Still have the original strainers (1999) and they’re metric and to access the basket on the port side you…

February 12, 2020 at 8:33 am Holy sh*t! No bueno. I have a diver once a month doing the bottom and I’m sure he’ll service the new strainers when he’s down there and pull off as needed.

February 11, 2020 at 11:04 pm Question, my 1999 Riv. has no engine/oil/etc. alarms on the dash. Other than my mechanical gauges, that’s it. How hard are they to install and are they worth getting? Thanks.

    • Transmission Oil Sample

This topic has 1 reply, has 2 voices, and was last updated byRob Schepis 5 years ago

March 14, 2019 at 9:23 am Iā€™m in the process of buying a 1999 Riv. 43 with Cummins 450 Diamonds. The engine oil samples came back with some soot but OK. Starboard transmission was fine. Ports transmission, which was rebuilt a couple years ago came back to dark to read. It was flushed, ran for a few hours and retested. This time it came back yellow but my mechanic thinks the tray is good. Just looking for some additional thoughts and reassurance on this or is there …
